Hello, I removed Linux Mint from my laptop and added windows 8.1 after deleting all my partitions. I then Upgraded to windows 10. For the 1st few days it said i had the 500gb for the max however over night it dropped to 143gb. As seen bellow.

((NOTE: This photo is showing only 143gb however it is a 500gb hard drive))
Capture.png

I also took the steps to reinstall & reformat the laptop. Also updated the BIOS and had no luck. I have also tried using WinDirStat to see if it was being hidden somewhere however it seems it just up and vanished. Is there any way I can fix this to get the 500gb back.

I only see a shot of a 149 GB drive, where is this 500 GB drive you speak of ?

It`s not in that shot, or even on that computer for that matter.

What's your best reason that it is in fact a 500 GB drive?

Have you ever had more than say 160 GB of stuff on it--operating system, data, applications, everything?

Install Partition Wizard 9.1, run it and give us a shot.

You say you once had Linux on it, and you said you deleted all the partitions.

Windows may not/does not recognise a Linux partition, but I would think DM would show something, let`s see what Partition Wizard will show.

You say this PC had Linux on it.

Then you moved to Win 8.1.

Then you moved to Win 10.

I am wondering if this is some carryover from the Linux installation and the Linux file system?

How did you remove the partitions along the way?

Did you ever do a "clean all" from Diskpart AFTER Linux was removed?

I had already mentioned that.

I would next look at the disk using the diskpart comands.

Right click Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator and type these commands.

If it still comes up wrong, run the clean all command, it`s gonna take a long time so go to the movies, or work, or go on a cruise :)

This will wipe the entire drive, it has to be done by booting your Windows 7 install Disc.

^ Exactly what I wanted to propose - a clean wipe writing zeros to all sectors.. OP's disk structure is totally mauled. It has to be cleaned first with cleanall and then formatted appropriately..But I am not sure whether it will run from the system disk and wipe it. It has to be done from an external source - Windows media. Correct me if wrong.

@VariousGamerTV, did you run the latest version of Partition Wizard 9.1 as instructed by AddRAM? To me it looks like you are running the old version.Anyway not relevant at this stage, I am just curious.

What version of PW he`s using is irrelevant, it still shows the disk as having the wrong capacity.

jumanji, the cleanall command can only be performed from the install disc or a system repair disc to overwrite the drive in question, if it was another non system disk, then it could be done from within windows.

I first want him to run Diskpart from within windows with just the 2 commands I provided in the picture, nothing more. I`m pretty sure it will just turn up the same 149 GBs

I think the old Linux code is really the issue here.
