My browsers keep locking up. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing them. Google Chrome is the worst affected. Normally if I go to a different browser for a few minutes Chrome will free itself up.
For example Chrome sometimes locks up completely (for a few minutes) whilst I am half way typing and URL into the address field(!)
Confused. Are you suggesting I run in Window safe mode permanently?

Click Start and type in the search box,
msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
Repeat the screen shots,

You can review your extensions for any odd listing too and post some screen shots of them,
If you have Malwarebytes and Superantispyware scan might be a good idea

I have been through a whole thing looking for Malware already. However I have just tried rebooting to Safe Mode, running RKILL, then running MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware, however neither of them found anything.
Oh wait - I just remembered one of them found "Sendori" and "Search Protection" - maybe that could have been causing the problem (??)
I'm now running an AVG Cloudcare scan... nope that didn't find anything.
I cant work out how to take screenshots of all of the services at one. I tried FastStone capture which sometimes lets you scroll however not in this case. Doing it one at a time is too time consuming as there looks like there will be about 20 screenfuls... :^(

It seems most/(all?) of my browsers are all still tending to lock.
Also I have a nasty thing happening when I install Ditto clipboard manager. The popup list doesnt disappear when you paste out of it and you have to click the "x" every time. I tried uninstalling Ditto using Advanced Uninstaller Pro (which claims to clean up the registry properly afterwards) and a new install of Ditto seems to work fine for 2 or 3 days and then the same problem comes back. This has happened about 3 or 4 times recently...

P.S. Ditto became unusable and I had to reinstall it. Windows failed to close down. It never got beyond "shutting down..." message. So I had to press the reset button eventually. Worrying...

The best browser you can get at this time, I revived by accident. I've always run Opera, I stopped at Opera 12 and wouldn't cross the line to the new Opera. It was months later that websites quite supporting Opera 12.x and below (no flash support) to the point I had to update, Installing opera 25 on top of 12. While they both have their seperate directories they meet up someplace, I have Opera 12 (with flash support) back, and it's still one of the better browsers out.

I think it's worse that a bit of maintenance by the browsers. Bot Google and Firefox seem to regularly seize up completely for minutes at time. Ironically I couldn't even get at this forum last night in Chrome(!)
I am a webmaster and so I need to use ALL the browsers regularly on the sites that I maintain.
AVG I'll need to replace soon because my main company client is winding down and the license will expire. Do you have any strong recommendations?
The truly bizarre thing is that when my Chrome slows down I still get "Waiting for sevenforums.com..." at the bottom left of browser window.
It's as if the websites in question have slowed up because they know it's Chrome!
Meanwhile if I open up say MSIE it loads the exact same page without a problem.
