Hi, my brand new Asus ultrabook was installing updates, got to 30-40% and the screen turned off. I waited for about 30-40 mins but nothing changed so i turned it off from the button. Tried holding it down several times, and turning it back on and off but nothing changed. I can hear it loads windows and i have blindly managed to type my password and i've even heard skype load so it must be working properlu besides the dark monitor. Please help out!

This sounds like a hardware problem - or you've accidently flipped the switch to put the signal to the VGA output for an external monitor.
What happens if you press Fn+F8 ( a common key combo to switch between the onboard and external monitor)?

Do you see the BIOS POST screen at all?
If not, then you have a hardware problem, and need to contact the manufacturer for assistance.

I have tried fn+f8 and it won't come on. I can't see anything at all. Just a dark screen. I guess i'll have to ship it off to be serviced. Thanks a lot.

I don't know what a bios post is but it sounds like something i should have been able to see. No there hasn't been anything on it since it went dark. When i do fn+f8 there is a barely visible flick, but nothing comes on.

It sounds like either the backlight has gone, or the inverter.
It's a workshop/replacement job, I'm afraid - phone the manufacturer's warranty support, and get them on the job.
