My Computer wakes me up in the middle of the night!

Ok here is the thing.

I'm sleeping like zzz then all of a sudden I hear a wirrr and realise my computer is turned on and making noises sounding like its reading a card in the disk drive. It sometimes sounds like a lawn mower too!

Please let me sleep

Check the BIOS. Most have an option to power on the computer at a designated time. You can disable this function.

In addition, check using the tutorial below to see what last woke your computer up to see if it can narrow it down to a specific cause, and post back with that information. We'll see what we can do to help.

Ensure you haven't left a disk in the CD/DVD drive. That will cause some optical drives to run at full speed after awhile.

Is your computer powered off and is getting powered on? If so, I would make sure that the wake on LAN function is disabled.

If it is just waking up from sleep then it could be that Windows is installing updates in the middle of the night.
