My computer will suddenly freeze at random

My computer will suddenly freeze at random. I can't find any common symptoms to look for a cause. Usually the monitor will get a strange display like a distorted checkerboard, and sometimes it will go black and lose signal, but trhe whole system just freezes up.

could I see a perfmon report and any minidumps you may have.

perfmon applies even if you can't locate any minidumps.

The distorred checkerboard makes me think fried GPU, but I am also getting these random freezes with out the graphics issue

Usually a graphics adapter will only start artifacting when under stress, unless it's totally tanked.

Anyhow, I can't say anything specific or rule out software involvement without more information on the system.
