Solved My desktop icons & background color changed

And I've messed around so much trying to fix it myself (before asking for help) 'cuz I'm sure it's simple, that now I'm not sure I can remember what I did just before the problem showed up or what I've done to 'try' to correct it. My 1st shot, even tho' blurred, will show that the 'text color' below each icon was white & easy for me to read. The 2nd, after it changed, shows the color more blackish, harder to read. I also think there's a bit of difference in background color? I also messed that up again just before I came to post but didn't think to get a shot.

:banghead: you ain't gonna believe this!!!! I closed the forum after I posted above, didn't bother to look at my desktop, clicked on my search site to look for something else which also involved clicking on dt & when I did so, would you believe that the text was back to white!! The background color is still not what I want but am half afraid to try correcting that now. I know there are some issues with my PC (mainly the idiot sitting here typing) but there's no way I can do a 'reinstall' which seems to be the posted answer so many times when I read other posts.

Did you try a "system restore" to a date before you experimented?

This may help, run the steps outlined in this tutorial, Option Two, and reboot the system:

If that doesn't correct the issue, run it two or more times with a reboot between.
You may get this result:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired
them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
The system file repair changes will take effect after the next reboot.

Or a message that no integrity violations were found.
Or that Windows Resource Protection found errors it cannot repair, if so rerun the steps above.

@Jacee, nope, usually only (sometimes) think of that when I install something.

@Britton, clicked your link & right away have 2 questions, in 'Tip box', I'm not sure my 'services' is set right, see shot & in 'Warning box', I have no idea about mine.
I've wondered several times about doing that 'System File Checker' because of what seem like many problems with me but at the same time "it spooks me".

Now (after I get my services shot included here) I have to go post about a couple other things I found. , sorry, I'm gonna have you guys pulling your hair out. ( I thought I saw a smilies for that in here?)

The services are OK. the sfc scan won't hurt anything bbut may take 30 minutes or more to run. Maybe shorter too though, just let it finish. I think it's best to only run it and do nothing else while it runs.

I still don't understand that one. I'm don't think I'm smart enough to actually 'modify' anything but I 'may' have done something to make using Windows 7 easier for me???

As long as I'm talking about being a n00b, is it best for me to let it go ahead with 'repairs' if found or should I just do the 'Verify only'?

It means if you've installed a custom theme to make w7 look different, sfc will revert it to default. Let it do the repairs, you can make your modification again if needed. If you mean adjustments made tih built in setting, they won't change.

Just after my last post I went back to read more on the tut & went ahead & did the verify only. Then got company 'til just a bit ago. I just came back to find the instructions on how to post the log 'cuz the scan did say something other than "no problems found" , don't remember just what it did say.

Well, that didn't help. Then I saw something about 'Reliability & ??? Monitor' but have been distracted by phone calls, more company coming & for supper to boot so best get my fanny off here. Be back tomorrow.

Bite the bullet & ran sfc. Results were that it found corrupt files & repaired them. I'd like to know what it found but when I try to copy/paste Brinks command to see the Notepad file I can't seem to get it accomplished. Don't know what I may be doing wrong.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any!!! And I guess I'm blind too, found the sfcdetails on desktop, read it & came uncorked! This was all for nothing, all it repaired that I can see in details was my email which had NO PROBLEM & now I can't open it. But before I discovered that, I went back to see if I could get my desktop color back & ended up with black lettering again.

Guess I'd best go learn how to work with System Restore & see if I can find a spot to restore to before I end up throwing this machine out the window.

So far it's good. Got my mail back & white lettering on desktop. Not 100% sure of DT color but that's not the end of the world. Won't mark as solved just yet but probably will after a bit more checking out.

some good news then. Can you right click the desktop in an empty spot and select Personalize? If so see if you can use an Aero theme.

Yes, good news there . I looked at the Aero themes but I really like the Solid background & do more or less think it's what I had before so will stick with it.
I have found another little glitch tho'. My Speckie isn't working even tho' it's enabled in Manage Add-ons. I might try a reinstall there, no real biggie.

You're welcome.
If you mean Speckie the spell checker, it is really buggy, I use it. They did just release a new version.
If it's Speccy the system info tool, uninstall the old one first.

I did mean spell checker & I boo-boo'd, there are 2 listings for Speckie in add-ons & I only saw the one. I gotta learn to slow down & open my eyes.
