Solved My desktop will not respond correctly.

I am running windows 7 64 bit and when I left click on the desktop icons nothing happens but if I right click and hit open it loads the program. If I left click on the task bar icons the program loads, what do I do to fix this?

You can try rebuilding the icon cache and see if that helps.

I did both things but nothing, I just noticed when I tried to click in computer to go to another drive by left clicking on the letter it would not work I had to right click and hit open to go to the drive.

Did the problem start recently and do you have a restore point from before the problem started ?
If you do, you can try doing a system restore.

Do you run system optimizers, tune-up utilities, registry cleaners, etc. ?

It started yesterday I have a backup from a month ago made by the program reflect but I hope not to loose all the things I have done.and I have system mechanic

Tune up programs such as system mechanic can cause more problems than they solve.
If it doesn't have a detailed log of what it changed, there is no way of knowing what changed.

The only "tuneup" program I use is CCleaner / file cleanup.

You can look in Ease of Access Center, but i don't think any setting there would cause this.

You could try a clean startup to make sure you don't have some program causing it.

I just tried both but still have the problem, even in my mail program.

you will not believe this!! I entered the problem in google and the first thing that came up I clicked on and it said to check if the mouse double click was set too high and it was! Can you believe it was that simple.
