Solved My DVD writer installed in my pc not showing up under my computer

Hi friends

my pioneer blu ray writer suddenly start giving me hardware error , so i put my old dvd writer back in to my pc , just then i noticed that my computer has revert back to my old desk top and every thing in c drive changed to old programs and desk top before i re install the win 7 , even the windows password changed to the old one .another thing that dvd writer i installed is not showing up under my computer , Can you help me friends as i am really stuck and dont know how to sort this out .

Do you have an old installation of Windows on your second hard drive? It might be booting from that drive.

thanks for your reply , how do i tell my computer to boot from SSD where the actual new operating system is .

I had 4 sata ports used to show up when i boot up , but now when i boot up it only showing sat port 2 and 4 1 and 3 is missing. i know i need to go to bios and select ssd to boot from but how do i do that .please explain step by step how to do that and is there any reason while booting up sata port 1 and 3 missing ?

If i unplug the cables i mean power cable and sata cable from ssd and plug it back on will it work is this some sort of loose contact ?

i got 1 sata connection for SSD

1 for HDD1
1 for HDD2
1 for Blu ray Writer.

i think now only 2 HDDs are showing up and not showing ssd and writer.

Is there any particular reason why this happened.

i had look under BIOS

it is showing SATA port 1 not present
SATA port 2 HDD1
SATA port 3 not present
SATA port 4 HDD2

how can i enbale sata port 1 and 3 under bios please let me know

some one told me this could be a problem with the mother borad , is that mean my mother board broken and need a new one ?

If unplugging and plugging the SATA cable on the SSD makes it work, (and I hope you did that with the power off), you may have a bad SATA cable. Do you have another that you can try?

Hi Friend

i sorted the problem , the acutal problem was the power cable in my ssd was off and i did not see that, my mistake stupid me, i plugged that back in again had a problem with windows trying to boot from HDD2 which got no operating system , so i pressed F11 button went to boot mode selected ssd and press enter it works fine but when again you re start the pc it is going back to hdd to boot it , tried from bios got no ssd selected there only cd/dvd usb and the hdd.

Finally i have to press F6 button in bios to reset the bios to the original factory mode ,after that every thing started working fine.

now a new problem

i got a Asus X5DIJ laptop , the writer not working ,can i replace it with any standared laptop writer ?

also i need to change the HDD in that to an SSD, if so will my Asus X5DIJ laptop supports SATA 3 ?

Please help me guys i dont now is this the right thread to ask or if any new section for laptops?
