When running Unigine Heaven benchmark I would sometimes get a stutter/short freezes in running it or flickering/small lines.

After installing the SSD no more stutter or flickering.

So it can help. The hard drive is no longer the choke point of the system.

SSD doesn't improve the video card.
It allows the best the video card can produce be seen on the monitor.

It's the placebo effect. Since you cannot quantitatively measure what looks better, you just have this gut response that it is better. It's the same with many tweaks actually, people often "feel" it's better without actually knowing or testing to be certain.
