Solved MY internet connection randomly ceases

12 feet should be OK, How's the signal strength on your task bar?

Right click on your network icon, left click on "open network and sharing center". In the top left left click on change adapter settings properties. right click on your wireless network connection. left click on properties. left click on internet protocol ver 4 TCP/IP protocol. Check and make sure obtain address automatically is filled. ON the dns you can either put in a manual one like google's 8.8.8.8 or either obtain automatically

Also, go into manage wireless and chose your chastoy router. Go into properties and make sure it sez connect to this machine when in range or automatically or words to that effect

All those things have already been filled.

when you said that your computer liked the unsecure router, how could that happen? You need to give the chastoy router priority so this nonsense wont happen again

Go get a length of Ethernet cable and plug it in to ;your machine and the plug the other end into the router. If your internet capability is OK then replace your wireless dongle. this is getting old, and I can't wait an hour between responses from you

I waited until the connection stopped. Even with a direct connection, the internet wouldn't be restored.

Now that I think about it, I have had less than ideal connection with my other internet appliances too. Although never to the extent I am having with this computer.

I have been having the same problem. I went into Device Manager and looked at the properties of the Wireless network adapter (Realtek RTL8190 802.11n PCI ) and found a check mark under Power Management "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" I un-clicked it and am now very hopefully waiting to see if it has any results.

This problem has completely gone away since I unclicked the item in power management mentioned above.

In case anyone is wondering, the problem has arguably gotten worse. When I shut down now, it says I haven't shut down correctly; even if I shut down manually with the power button. I also think my computer has gotten slower; especially when it boots up. I am seriously considering just reinstalling windows 7 and hoping for the bet. If that doesn't work then I guess I am going to have to build another PC.

Sorry to see that you are still having a problem. Before going to extreme measures, you might want to try installing a new wireless adapter. I found one on eBay that I installed and it works great. Okay I finally got a hold of a different wireless adapter. It is a bit choppy, but the issue has seemed to gone away. I am marking this thread as solved.
