Solved My Language Keeps Changing

I didn't want to start a new thread if this problem has already been discussed and someone has posted a solution.

So, I did a search for "Language Toolbar", but was unable to find any solution.

My problem is that my Language Toolbar offers the choices of "US, Canadian French & Canadian Multilingual Standard".

But about once an hour, for no discernable reason, it keeps switching my language from US to Canadian French. I have tried to use the Help system and I visited Microsoft Windows: Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Live to try and learn about this Language toolbar but I have no idea why it would do this.

Can anyone explain why it does this and how I can prevent it? I would like to use the US language at all times.

Suggestions only :

1. Make sure your Default input language is set as ... English (United States)
Start > Control Panel > Regions and Languages > Keyboards and Languages > Change Keyboards...> under General tab, at Default input language heading, what does it say there ?

2. Sounds like Canaian French is an " ADD " language. If so, check if there is a " hotkey " set up. If there is one, chances are you have been accidentally hitting that hotkey without knowing it.
To check hotkey settings ...
Start > Control Panel > Regions and Languages > Keyboards and Languages > Change Keyboards...> Advanced Key Settings > is hotkey setup for switching input language ?

Wow! Sounds to me like you really know what you are talking about.

I know what key causes the Language to switch. It is the Right Alt Key.

But the hotkey assigned was Left Alt plus Shift and it would change languages without my ever hitting the Shift key. I'm pretty sure it was Left Alt plus Shift. But I could be mistaken about that.

But I thank you very much for putting me on the right track. I feel like you have given me the ammunition I need to gain control over this problem and I will come back to this thread and let you know if it ever happens again.

BTW, I hope it's not agin the rules for me to specify the name of another Windows 7 forum. But I found another one that seems to be almost as active as this one and I posted this same thread there and waited 3 days. No one ever posted a reply. So, I guess there is a lesson to be learned there.

Anyway, I am very impressed with your post. You gave me super detail and info and I really appreciate that. I sure wish I knew how the "points" system works here. If someone gives me some good info, I should give them some points? I'd sure like to give you some.

OK. I clicked on "I approve" re your post. I couldn't see any other choices. But then I clicked on "Add to your reputation". So, I hope that if you care about your reputation you will be able to see that I did that. But I am clueless as to how that all works.

OK. Since I took your advice, the problem has not recurred. Not even once.

So, I'm very pleased to say that it appears your suggestions were what I needed to solve my problem. Thank you very much.

FYI...this posting is old but for anyone interested...if you hit the right shift and ctrl the language will change to Canadian Multilingual Standard. If you hit the left shift and ctrl the the setting will change from US to Canadian French to Canadian Multilingual to US and so on...

I am having the exact same issue and nothing here fixes it. My keyboard is defaulted to US and I have NO hot keys and for some reasons, the keyboard keeps going to Multi-Language Canadian and it's driving me nuts....it just started doing this a couple of months ago....out of the blue :/
