Hello everybody.

My computer was working fine yesterday, it showed about 6 Networks and I was able to connect to my own network, D-Link fine. Now after playing a game via game booster I tried to acces Google Chrome and it says "this webpage is not available" I cant acces Skype or steam or anything that requires internet.

I thought I had simply disconnected my self but when I went to check, it shows no networks. I thought this was my connection but then tried other devices "I-Mac, I-Pad, Windows XP Desktop and a DSI" and they all seem to find many networks and connect to D-Link fine.

Has anybody got any ideas about why this might be. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Lee

It's hard to say exactly what is causing this problem without looking at your ipconfig/all but running the file below will take care of most internal network problems. If you are still having problems please post your ipconfig/all here please. Just type the command ipconfig/all into an elevated command pompt.

Lets try flushing DNS cache and renewing your IP.

Flush the DNS cache and restore MS's Hosts file ...
Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop. Right click on the flush.bat file to run it as Administrator.

Your computer will reboot itself.

No copy paste make's it a bit harder for sure.

You can try running this batch file which does the same thing although Windows may complain about it, it's perfectly safe to run this file. You have to unzip it.

Copied all of that into notepad, restarted computer, and now it comes up with Unidentified Network, no internet access, unlike before when it said, No Networks. :-( Then the notepad thing I saved vanished.

You know that thing you got me to do, did that also flush the DNS cache, or is that a separate task. Thanks.

Any help greatly appreciated.

P.S how would I install that file when I cant get on the internet?

Yes it also flushed the DNS cache.

You would need to save the file to a USB drive then access it from the USB drive after plugging it in.

If you can post your ipconfig/all from the problem machine it will help me to see what is going on with your connection. Looks like the picture below, screen shots are best.

Programs such as GameBooster work by disabling background services in order to free up more CPU time for the game to which you wish to give a speed boost to. Unfortunately, it can also disable essential services, giving rise to a number of symptoms (including, but by no means exclusive to, failure to establish a network connection).

Have you tried a System Restore to a time when you knew you had network connectivity?

Game booster has worked fine for 1yr + and at the moment it is off, so all it effects should be cancelled. Or am I wrong as I really dont like system restoring. :-(

Yes as Dwarf mentions those lame third party programs like Game Booster does things like this. Using third party programs like these NEVER pays off in the long run.

1-Click Boosting Game Performance EnhancedGame Booster v3 can easily and fast close background processes and unnecessary Windows services, to speed up your game playing and avoid possible conflicts and incompatibility. With the innovative "Enhanced 3rd parties' services detection" technology, Game Booster v3 can automatically detect and close more unnecessary background services.

If you go to start/run and type in services.msc then hit enter you can check out which services may have been turned off by this magical program.

Make sure that all of the relevant networking services are started and set to auto or manual.

make sure that all these services are started then Set to Automatic> DNS Client, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery, Peer Networking Grouping,UPnP Device Host services, Homegroup listener, Homegroup provider.

Not sure if this is right. I copied it from a win 7 laptop, onto a usb, onto a mac, so format may be messed up. Sorry>

The ipconfig shows no default gateway being acquired from the router at all.

Don't worry about the screen shots. Most likely a few of those services have been disabled by game booster or you could try system restore. I like the idea of enabling those services again much better. :)

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

I have another name for programs like game booster, I call it sabotage. :sarc:

You will want to uninstall game booster at all costs.
