Hi,

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium which is stuck on the shutting down screen after I pressed install and shut down computer.

I have left it plugged in so it doesn't run out of battery and shut down.

How do I fix this?

Ah, I have exactly the same problem! My Windows 7 Home Premium is an Acer though. You can view my thread for the details of my progress with this problem.

Laptop has been shutting down for 7 hours after update, please help!

Anyway, mine has been stuck for 10 hours total, so I decided to hold down the power button until it's dead. Not a very good idea, but I can't think of any other way. After that, I turned the pc back on. The pc seems to run normally. But then when I shut the pc down again, it decided to install more updates. This is when things get ugly on my part. Sometime during this second shutdown update process, I got a blue screen of death. So yeah, best not follow what I did. But should you decide to hold that power button and then turn the pc back on, I recommend that you set the windows updates settings to "never check for updates" so that when you do a shutdown again, the updates won't install, thus saving your pc from a potential blue screen of death.

Oh yeah, have you ever got a "Failure configuring windows updates. Reverting changes."? I got that at least 2 times already.

Ok that's great. I took some of the advice on the other thread and it resolved my problem.

Thanks for that mate!
