Here's the thing, my brother's laptop went extremely slow and stuck on the shutting down screen. So I went into Safe Mode and run MBAM. It removes the malwares(around 40+). Then I restart normally, and did a clean up using CCleaner. This greatly improves the speed. But when I tried to defrag and run check disk, it did not show any progress at all. So I used the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool(seagate) and it fails in both Self DST and Long test. Look's like my brother need a new hdd...? But how to solve the shutting down problems? Its stuck on the shutting down screen for more than 12hrs... I tried a clean boot, but it get stuck on a blank screen with a mouse pointer. So I had to force restart on safe mode, and boot normally... what should I do?

Hi ral Grado,

Just out of curiosity, what is his Laptop Brand and OS!?!? What program did you use to do Defrag!?!?

BTW, just because MBAM caught 40+ malwares, I am not sure if all of the nasties have been eradicated!

G! :)

My Friend has the same problem on his laptop. His is 32-bit.

The temp solution we have is to just hold down the power button to do a hard shut down, then turn it back on. Not the greatest of ideas, but he needs it for business so we have no choice at the moment. When we do that, we can login right away. But we also would like a proper solution if anyone has one.

Thanks.

after trying everything and fails, I decided to do a clean install(can't even repair install)... My guess is that the infections has messed up the system files... Problem solved! :)
