I have a new computer with Windows 7 Ultimate and needed to copy my iTunes library to it from the old computer running Windows XP SP2.

The method I used was to open the Home Share feature in iTunes to connect both computers, then highlight the files on the 'old' computer and drag and drop into iTunes on the 'new' computer. This achieved what I wanted, it permanently copied the music into iTunes on the new computer and no longer requires the Home Share feature to play the music.

However, some things happened/didn’t happen.

1. On the new computer the music has also gone into Windows Media Player 12 apparently automatically, which I find quite odd and don't know how it could happen.

2. None of the music shows up in the My Music folder the way it does on the old computer. It is completely empty.

I want all the music to show up in the My Music folder. Does anyone know why this didn’t happen and how I can get everything into the folder?

If I go into the old computer > My Music folder and copy the files onto a flash drive, then copy/paste them into the My Music folder on new computer, will that work? Or will it duplicate everything in iTunes and WMP12 libraries, or create other problems?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Open iTunes, right-click on one of the songs, open Properties and find out where iTunes is seeing your music at. I don't actually use iTunes so I'm just guessing here. But find out where your music is really stored.
