My Operating disc isn't recognized and password isn't working

I was trying to open .pdf files last night and they weren't working. My task bar showed that there was an update to adobe so I downloaded it, restarted the computer and went to bed.

I got up this morning and the password screen was up. I tried to input the password and it said it was wrong. One weird thing is it's not giving me the option to click on my password hint, which I always create. I have not been able to get past the password.

I found my operating disc and put that into the drive, restarted the computer and nothing. The password screen still shows up exactly the same, no hint, password doesn't work and nothing happens when I try to use the disc. I've also tried F11 at start up and nothing there either.

HELP ???

Hi sharkieb8, welcome to sevenforums. Are there any other accounts set up on your machine that have admin priviledges? If so, you could log in as that account and reset your password. I suspect you have some trojan or malware running on your machine which would account for your symptoms. There was a genuine update to Adobe in the past couple of days but the rest of your symptoms indicate trojan/malware activity.

Hi there
this might sound silly but often faults can be cured via the simplest of solutions.

Ensure the Num Lock (or Caps Lock) are not enabled on the keyboard - I've "locked" myself out of a computer before by accidently having the num lock on so the password was incorrect.

Not sure if this will fix your problem but it's often overlooked when people can't logon -- it happens more than you think.

Cheers
jimbo

I have double checked the caps and numbers locks and that's not the issue. I only have the one administrator account set up, there are no other accounts. If I have malware or a trojan how can I remove it if I can't logon? Pardon me but this is the first time I've ever tried to use a forum and post so I'm not even sure if I'm responding correctly. I tried to burn a CD with a free password recovery/reset. I think it was Orph something but the computer would not recognize that CD either. Ugh!

Dumb question...but when you tried to boot from the OS disc, you didhave the cd/dvd drive selected for first boot in your bios setup?

FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs Download List

Run Startup Repair repeatedly from System Recovery Options

Startup Repair should automate System Restore, but if not run it separately from the Options list.

Next from Options Command line, run SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

Use the one-time BIOS boot menu key to boot your DVD or Repair CD, or set it as first to boot in BIOS: How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

Bios set-up?

Sorry I don't know much about this stuff. What is my bios set-up and how do I check to see if the cd/dvd is set first and or change it to be first if needed? I have tried to F11 when rebooting and nothing happens.

If you can give us your system specs and manufacturer details we can give you definitive advice on accessing the BIOS, but typically it would be a case of pressing the F10 key on startup.
