Welcome
Download speedfan. Then test for overheating. Shutdown is a classic symptom of overheating and can cause all kinds of problems
I know that you tested, but I trust speedfan and not familiar with your test.

I don't know or play the game so I don't know how good the coding is (hogs pc resources like GTA4 for example) so I am going to say that you rig is more than capable of handling it, perhaps the 8800 ultra is getting a little long in the tooth but it should be able to handle the game fine. The 680i were good boards as well.

my drivers are up to date and i just installed windows 7 ultimate x64
This concerns me a little bit... I assume that you updated drivers after installing Win 7 and not before, and by up to date, you don't mean, the drivers that came with Win 7 Windows Update, right?

What version of drivers do you have and how did you updated the drivers? sorry, a lot of people do this the wrong way.

Did you also updated your audio drivers?

What kind of monitor do you have and is there a dedicated driver for it? this may not be pertinent but I remember having some issues, quiet similar to yours and it turned out to be the std/generic monitor drivers that came with win7 or at least, once I got dedicated monitor drivers, my problem went away so I always check... whether this holds any water or is related to your problem, I don't know.

Do you have your monitor set to sleep if idle [screen saver or what ever it is called]- Sometimes they can go to sleep if so lil touch of the mouse it is back on- And can do it in some games or even using some players to watch full screen videos what ever and the player or app what ever settings say do not let the monitor sleep. You would think playing and using the mouse the whole time it would not do it but they can in some games etc- I have had it happen to me in both xp and w7. I do not play this game tho- just saying is all.

Maybe it is a glitch or something and not supposed to go to sleep when in use but can be trying to or is doing so anyway. It is a fast simple test to turn off monitor sleep from display settings [or power saving I can not remember now] might fix it instantly- can change it before and after playing if it fixes your prob- good to go. If not it only took a sec to try any way..

Wish ya the best- see ya..:)

What kind of power supply do you have?

It's either you are overheating or the powersupply is overtaxed, which is likely.

sorry for the late reply @ richard : i downloaded the program isntalled and opened it while i am playing and the problem occurs nothing changed .

@ asta : Nope by the updates i dont mean the ones coming with the windows , i got like 4-5 different windowses after this problem started , and theres something else ( i dont know how but i dont have any problems for a few months then boom the problem comes back ) , its not a problem with my monitor 100% because i tried it on 3 different monitors and the problem is the same .. and no i didnt update my audi drivers !

@ ezeht : i checked what ur saying from power options and it is set to never sleep or turn off display and the problem happens if i open game or games with v.high graphics etc.. and i just noticed now that my GPU temp while playing is 75 while my Graphics card fan is set on 100% !!! .. there's only 3 things i didnt change in my computer since this problem started " Mother board - processor - power supply " ...

@ Matt : I think its overheating . but i dunno what to do i put a fan beside my computer on maximum power and still the screen goes off :s .

i will try changing the mother board / processor / power supply tommorow with my brother i hope there 'll be a difference .. Thank you all for tryin to help me <3 :)

In the BIOS, there should be an option for the fans, if its overheating, you may want to run them at 100% all the time or check to see if there is an AUTO option so it only runs them at Max when it needs it.

If its already set at Auto, then switch to 100%, your rig will get loud but its better than the alternative! ;)

As rich46 said, sounds like you're having an overheating issue. A few things you can do....

- Get a can of compressed air, open the case a do a cleaning by blowing all the dust off the fans and components.
- Making sure all the case fans work.
- check that the video card's fan isn't caked with dust.
- Check that the CPU fan is also clean and free of dust.
- You might also want to check the thermo paste on the CPU.
- Also - if you feel up to the task - you can remove the GPU heatsink and replace the thermo paste there as well.
- Make sure you have good ventilation = good cable management as well.

Running the fan on ultra high is a temp fix that will eventually burn out the fan. In addition I'm sure the noise will become very annoying after listening to a loud GPU whinny fan for any length of time.

My two cents.

Let us know.

i opened the case just now and the small fan on the GPU itself isn't spinning does that mean i need to replace the gpu? or can that small fan be fixed?

Well that means you found your heating issue, and thus your shutdown problem :)

You can check the fan to see if it's clogged with dust. Also manually spin the fan and see if it'll run after that. If not, you can look into replacing the fan though I've never replaced a GPU fan by itself, I'm sure it can be done but..... search the net. Personally I'd just replace the card if the fan doesn't work as it may be a sign of other thing to go. After all you did say you've been experiencing this issue for a while ;)

Good luck.

dang that's too bad even though my card is already 2 years old it can still support newly released games... i'll weigh it, if it's too much trouble to replace the fan alone i think i'll just buy a new gpu like you suggested... thanks for the help!!!

You could try and disassemble the card and play around with it to see if you can get the fan to working.

The other option you could look into is replacing the entire heatsink/fan with a third party GPU cooling solution… might be cheaper than replacing the card.

On the other hand there are some really good cards out now that perform as well as the card you have now.

Just some things to think about :)

Hello , my problem was gone for 2 months till now , it came back while i was playing world of warcraft . i cleaned my case with compressed air 2 times and inserted a new fan and its still happening tho the monitor only shuts down 2-3 times /day now instead of every 10 minutes . my gpu temp while playing is 77º , all the fans in my pc are on 100% including the video card fan , i upgraded 80% of my pc so here are my new specs :

windows 7 Enterprise (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)
processor 3.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Extreme Q6850
Display NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra
board EVGA 132-CK-NF78 2
4GB memory .
