My start menu flickers and closes

Hi,
I am having trouble with my start menu closing a second or 2 after I click the start button, then the toolbar and desktop icons quickly flash twice. It is very frustrating as I can't get into certain programs or apps.
Please help???

Boot to Safe Mode with Networking.

Run a full scan using your anti-virus software. Quarantine or remove anything it finds.
Download, install and run Malware Bytes Anti Malware (free version). Let it clean up anything it finds as well.

Now boot normally and see how things are.

Thanks Ztruker but my virus scanner doesn't work in safe mode (Comodo Free Version)
I downloaded and ran the malware scanner in safe mode but it didn't find anything.
I will try downloading a different virus scanner and trying again but no luck as of yet

Run your AV in normal boot mode then, if it will run.
