My windows tells me it may not be genuine???

I bought my copy of Win 7 64bit from an official retailer.
I installed it in summer, never had any trial versions but did a clean install of Win 7 on a new harddrive.
Activation worked just fine.

Now, this morning I found a message on my screen that told me that my copy might not be genuine. I clicked on "Later" because I want to find out what this is about before I do anything.

Windows then behaved as usual.

and the script host tells me my Windows is licensed. The system screen tells me it's activated.
So what is this all about?

Mmm. What is this script host? Where is it from? If the Windows System tells you its Genuine, then it is. But I notice its OEM...yet you say you bought it from a retailer? Why is it showing OEM information?

You bought OEM copy separately from a seller.

May be you have done it unknowingly; but its a matter of fact, Microsoft does not legally allows to purchase single OEM copy by end users like you or me (It is for system builders).

So, we can not buy OEM copies separately without the hardware.

Here, in MS Worldwide OEM site, it is mentioned (Transfer of OEM Licenses) :

The End User Software License Terms is granted to the end user by you, the system builder. It is related to the OEM System Builder License for the PC on which it was originally installed.

You are required to support the license on that original PC, but you cannot support a license that has been moved from a PC that you manufactured to one that you did not. This is one of the key reasons an OEM System Builder License can’t be transferred. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

PC Transfer to Another End User

The entire PC, however, may be transferred to another end user, along with the software license rights. When transferring the PC to the new end user, the following must be included:
Original software media
Manuals (if applicable)
Certificate of Authenticity (COA)

Some computer hardware retailers sell OEM software for a private individual building a new PC. I always understood this to be MS legal. Is this what happened here?

I wouldn't worry. Most likely (from summer) it's now its 90 day "phone home to scare you time". Just recently had the (2nd time, 180 days ish) same happen to me. Checked properties, all genuine badged. Went to Genuine Validation pages. M$ basically told me to go away and stop wasting there web time. "Nothing wrong with your genuine Windows 7. See you again in 90 days time Mr fimble. Merry Xmas!!"

That's what Microsoft may have intended originally, but fact is that in Germany and Austria (I don't know about Switzerland) they have to sell system builder versions to single users too. It's illegal to restrict the sale of a product to a certain class of buyers, they were forced by law to make available the system builder version to the general public.

And yes, it is a system builder version. If I had payed the computer retailer an extra he would have installed it for me, but it would have been the same version and I would probably have got the same message. So I don't think the problem is in the OEM version itself.
