you can turn the media center off by control panel >> uninstall a program >> turn windows features on or off >> untick media center
but if your son is a dedicated hacker, he'll find out how to turn it back on again.

what is it that he is doing? or u dont want him doing? if its web search's use ur router and u can use key word blocking. also why would he turn off media center to access the net?

we are using opendns and my son is stealing paid account password for club penguin he is special needs so it is frusterating i jsut need it so we can use media center and no alt tab or minmizing no closing no keyboard commands

i dont get how media center comes into it? and just block the url, and also keyword block hack, and other words he'll use to get around it assuming your router can do tht, most routers can anyway.

ah rite ok. make him a user on the PC, and under security take off control to 'security' IE (internet explorer) so then he cant open it or run exe files.

kids gonna find a way, no matter what you do, until you are a better hacker yourself. if your 12 yrs old is a hacker, he will find a way no matter what you do to your media center. how about get him a PC and let him do what he wants... and teach him from right and wrong.
the best way for him not to hack your Media Center is to turn off your media center. pull the plug.
