Solved Need a new HDD - is SSD the way to go ?

My current Western Digital HDD may be starting to fail...if I replace it..will the 128GB 2.5-inch SSD 840 Pro Series, part #MZ-7PD128BW, work with my system as shown in the Speccy readout attached. Never had an SSD...any compatibility problems if the SSD 840 Pro is in the same case as other regular Sata HDD's as in my specs ?

Anyone know if Acronis True Image 2013 works with SSD's ? If I added the Samsung SSD 840...can I use Acronis to clone the Hitachi to the SSD 840 ?

My Win 7 Pro installation is on a 150GB partition on the 465GB drive

a SSD; is a good alternative to a standard hard drive; and I believe from looking at the specs shown; it should work with your system. Performance wise; it will be much quicker than a standard hdd; as there are no moving parts. As far as acronis goes; I am not familiar with that piece of software; so i will let someone else knock that part out as ive never used it myself.

Yes, a SSD will work perfectly. Question is whether you will have enough space on a small SSD for all your stuff. An alternative is a SSHD. It gives you 1TB of space for about the same money as a 128GB SSD. But it is not quite as fast.

Acronis will work well. If you are familiar with it, use that. I use free Macrium for such jobs, or better even the Paragon Migration Tool. That does the job with 3 clicks - but it costs $19.95. Here is one of my tutorials which may help you.

are SSD's the way forward???? theyve been the way forward for years now!! especially as you can get a 120gb varient for as little as £60!! i paid over £200 for one the same size some years back.
If you need additional storage use an external hard drive.. which you should already have as EVERYONE backs up their data like theyre suposed to so they dont come on the forums moaning that theyve lost everything when their hard drive eventually dies... no.. didnt think so
