Solved Need advise on buying Mobile internal hard drive

My laptop' drive is Black WD3200BEKT which i bought a few years ago to replace the a Hitachi that came with the laptop. The warranty of the WD drive is expiring next month and i was thinking if i should by a newer version or wait until the day the current one stop working and then buy.

I was looking this one WD3200BEKX WD Black Mobile Hard Drive (320GB), the description says it has Dynamic Cache, thing that the one expiring soon do not have. Does the performance is or should be better than the current one or there will not be noticeable improvement or should i keep the current one until it's dead?

Hello, I would monitor your hard drive, and as long as it is healthy I would not replace it.. If you do decide to replace it, go with a SSD. You can use the below link to run the WD diagnostics.

X3 on the SSD. However, unless you just want to get the added speed of an SSD right now and can afford it, I also would wait until the HDD started acting up or flat failed.

There are only two kinds of HDDs: one that has already failed and one that is going to fail. They all will fail eventually, often without warning. The only defense against that is a good backup scheme. While one's data should exist in three places—on the computer, on a local backup, and on an offsite backup—even one backup is one heck of a lot better than no backups.

SSD is too expensive (Megabytes vs. cost), but i could by that hard drive or a Seagate Momentus XT that is Hybrid, SSD and HD.

My hard drive is fine, no error, but i wanted a little push in performance if it was possible, but with my current system i don't know is worthy.

For what you have in mind, you would be disappointed by a SSHD (the Seagate); you would be better off getting a 7200 rpm HDD or a full SSD. SSDs are not cheap but they give the best performance increase for the price of any upgrade you may make.

I ended purchasing the Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid which comes with a 8GB SSD. The drive learns from my daily task and it fill the SSD for faster reading, can Windows 7 Superfetch affect in a negative way, should i leave it enable?

Should leave Superfetch enabled. I myself have one of the Segate Hybrid drives, the cache does works wonders but RAM is still faster.


BTW for those that don't know. The Segate Hybrid Drive is a full 7200 RPM drive with an additional layer of cache. It is pointless to say one would be disappointed and should instead get a plain regular 7200 RPM drive when they are the samething. The only difference is price which is hardly anything.

It will not interfere with the caching of files to the SSD part of the disk? because my understanding is that it learns my daily usage and it cache files that are most used.
