Need DOS command

For years I used to go into a DOS window, type the IP with something and the port, to see if it is open. If so I used to ban on my own server. Now I can't remember the command or port.

Pinki as far as I know you can only ping the IP the port I have never tried but the IP address just type ipconfig in the command prompt.

Thanks. I will try it tomorrow at my laptop. I'm on iPad now and have no idea if you can telnet. Your command rings a bell. But I remember we would type something with a port number to see if it was open.

I learned it on IRC to check if an ip was compromised. We had a series of ports to check if open. One specific port allowed anyone to hop on, send virii/nuke/ping offline, then move on to the next.

Ok Pinki perhaps things can be done with a server but never having worked with one am not sure.

Plus I am sorry to hear about your problem/s - look I wrok as an RN and I tell my subordinates I don't mind them asking me a thousand times how /when /where /what as it is preferable to ending up in a please explain because they don't ask.

If you got to a browser you can type a port number like this: 192.168.1.1:8080, if the port is open and anything is listening you should get a valid response.

Also, Gibson research Corporation also has open port tests (shields up).. http://www.grc.com

Of course, this is an external test and if you have your router running a firewall/nat, this site may just report all ports stealthed. It wont help you much if you are looking to examine ports from WITHIN your network.

2Cit, life had drastically changed. I went from hand-coding from memory to not able to code anything without looking it up. From 150+ websites earning megabucks to 8 sites earning nothing. From walking to wheelchair. From very fat to very chubby (hey, something good happened!). I'm very slowly on the road to recovery (no memory of three months in two hospitals due to a virus in the heart. Coma, loss of memory, foot/leg neuropathy and the list goes on.

It's horrendously frustrating to update a website then two days later not knowing where the changes were made, how to access the sidebar, how to code a link to a page. Simple coding tasks take time to look up and implement. I try not to get frustrated as it serves no purpose. I used to help here. Now I need help with things so simple I feel and look stupid asking.
