I have a couple old computers that still use IDE drives. Unfortunately, CrystalDiskInfo shows that 2 of my remaining 4 IDE drives are failing. I need to find some additional IDE drives. Doesn't anyone know where I can still get some good IDE drives?

I bought one drive (WD WD2500JB Caviar SE EIDE 250 GB) that supposedly had never been used (0 hours) but it failed in less than one hour. I returned it for a refund.

Two failing drives:

I believe we went over this in another thread sometime back, but I'm going to mention it here again for posterity and educational use to those that may come across this thread.

IDE is the acronym for Integrated Drive Electronics. This is the chip on the drive its self. ALL drives today use IDE. Back in the '80s IDE was unheard of and a dedicated card in the PC was required.

So, today IDE is falsely used to describe a PATA hard drive as opposed to a SATA hard drive. PATA being the old parallel connection and SATA being the now used serial connection.

If anyone thinks I'm wrong, then your requirement is to type at least three meaningful paragraphs citing your REAL sources as to why I'm wrong. LOL!

Anyway, saying IDE drive instead of PATA drive is fine, and most people (well, everyone) in the information technology (IT) Biz know what you mean. But I like precision and beautification. When I was a welder I was a flipping perfectionist! And I still am with EVERYTHING I do. At my job interview they ask what my greatest weakness is. I say perfection combined with my gung ho personality. Because this leads to being a weakness for me because it could have a bearing on me not meeting time critical tasks. Never the less, I know the task needs to be done on time and being prompt is one of my positives.

Kingwin seems to make good stuff. I own their 5.25" bay hard drive selector switch.
