Need help about BIOS options...Urgent...

i have AHCI/IDE option in my laptop BIOS,i want to know what is this option for, and which is good for which purpose.at present i am using window7 and it is set to AHCI..cuz i m facing PIO mode problem in my dvd burner and it is not burning anything,and someone told me that i see this option,i asked him what does this relation has wit burning but he didnt reply.
all i want to know is 2 things.

1.what is this AHCI and IDE option in BIOS for??..
2.does its changing,will effect to return PIO mode in DMA or DAO mode of dvd burner?...

AHCI is an option that MIGHT give you 1-5% performance gain, maybe nothing. It's mostly for "hot plugging" drives. It won't fix the DVD drive. (most likely) You can try it, but don't be surprised if you get a BSOD if you switch to AHCI. You may have to switch back.
