Need help booting from SSD; PCIe M.2 SSD not showing in bios

Hi all :)

Computer #1 is an ASUS x299 TUF, which has NVMe support; there are NVMe slots on the board and I can boot into W7 from my SSD, which is in one of those slots.

Computer #2 is an ASUS P9x79, which has no NVMe support; there are no NVMe slots on the board; W7 is installed on a SATA HDD. No issues there.

I would like to ditch that SATA drive, and run W7 off of a Samsung EVO NVMe SSD on comp #2

First thing I did is the hotfix so that W7 will see the NVMe:

https://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/417318-nvme-driver.html#post3412377

I purchased an ASUS PCIe adapter card, and put the SSD in there. Windows sees that SSD, and r/w works as expected.

I did a migrate of the os to the SSD using AEOMI Partition Asst., and it seems to have worked properly; if I open the drive within windows, it looks as it should (Program Files folders, Windows folder, etc.)

But I can't boot into the SSD. The BIOS doesn't see it. Yes, I have the latest BIOS vers for that MB :)

I found this:

https://www.tenforums.com/installation-upgrade/129763-pcie-m-2-ssd-not-showing-bios.html

I created a UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive using this:

https://www.eightforums.com/threads/uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-in-windows.15458/

That looks like this:

http://jeffreyhayat.com/temp/ruf.jpg

Not sure if that's correct, but that is what Rufus gave me.

So, I followed the instructions in the 10forum post.

1) Tho I do not have 'Storage Config' in my BIOS, I have 'SATA Config', and that is set to AHCI

2) I disabled CSM

3) I changed secure boot to other os

4) There is no option to clear secure boot keys under Key Mgmt

5) Saved

So, here is where I am stuck. And what does the UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive do for me here? I am not looking to install W7; only to get the BIOS to see the SSD.

Any ideas on what I can try next, or what I am missing?

Thanks in advance.

It doesn't make since for you to want to use Rufus on a USB stick just to get a PCIe card to boot a NVMe drive. What it sounds like is that the boot priority for the PCIe card with the NVMe drive is not number 1 in BIOS prioritization.

Your manual is here. On page 3-29 is where I think you need to focus on.

Thanks for the response, but that is not it.

From my first post:

But I can't boot into the SSD. The BIOS doesn't see it.

Therefore, it's not in the boot list to begin with.

Cheers.

Have you got the most recent modded bios? There might be one at win raid forum

I saw that, thx. I might give it a try.

If something gets screwed up, will I be able revert back to the current BIOS?
