it's so annoying all online example of how to install windows and create partition show it on a 20gig drive etc,,,, i have 2 drives (one ssd one raptor)and when u click on custom advanced in win 7 install u can create partition do i want to install win in the partition "type" system or primary

thx

ps i use a site that lets u get around win creating its own separate partitions w diskpart so it creats one type "system" on c drive and then if i delete the partition on d using win install and have it create a new one its always type "primary" is that fine and can i install win on the "system"

best method IMO is to disconnect all drives except the one you wish to install windows too (which should preferably be connected to the lowest number sata port but is not crucial)

To stop windows creating the small partition on install you simply need an active primary partition setup before install, assuming there is no required data on the drive as this will blank it my method for this is
Shift + F10 at windows installer screen
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0 (where 0 is the number of your disk)
clean
create partition primary (which will create one partition the size of the entire disk)
format fs=ntfs
active
exit
exit

This will give you one active primary partition the size of the disk which windows will recognise and you will only see one partition when selecting where to install too

Yes, unplug the raptor. Only the ssd should be plugged in during the install.

Using Diskpart is fine, A Partition Wizard Boot CD is also a great way to setup the drive.

Your ssd should also be aligned too before you install windows. Diskpart can do that and so can Partition Wizard.

thx for info i was using very similar commands so that win wont create a sept 100 mb partition from:
partitioning - Avoiding the pesky Windows 7 System Reserved Partition - Super User

BY THE WAY, the raptor is connected to the motheboard HD saver (using z97 extreme 6 "HDD Saver Technology
Set [Enabled] to switch on the HDD Saver. Set [Disabled] to switch of the HDD Saver.
It is recommended to enable the AHCI Mode to fully support the HDD Saver. You can also enable/disable the HDD Saver via the HDD Saver application under your OS.") its connected to sata but power connects to the MoBo hd saver (raptor d: drive)

shoukd i not use that feature?
thx

Physically unplug the power cable from the raptor.

And make sure the ssd is plugged into the #1 sata port on the motherboard.
