Need help connecting to network

OK, I'm not real good at all the computer terminology so please bare with me..

I have a desktop running Vista which has a Cradlepoint CTR350 router hooked to it via Ethernet. The router has a Verizon USB modem plugged into it which gives us our Internet connection. From that connection we also have a laptop running XP which connects via the router. This set-up works great, BUT I just bought a new laptop and I can't get it to connect.

My new laptop is running Windows 7. When I first turned the laptop on it instantly found my home network, but it won't let me connect to it. I've ran the diagnostics from the new laptop and it just keeps telling me to unplug the router, reset the router etc. I have tried all these things and still I can't connect.

As of right now the only way I can connect to the Internet is to plug my USB modem directly into my new laptop which then causes us to lose our network for the other computers.

Could someone please tell me how to fix this? I've got a whole list of IP addresses and whatnot, but I'm not sure what to do with them

If someone could give me a "Dummy's" version of a reply I would greatly appreciate it as a lot of what I have read so far has been completely over my head and I just need to get this fixed as soon as possible.

Try going to the tech info for your router and follow the set up steps to enable the WPA-2 security which Windows 7 prefers to connect with. If you can't connect by using the procedure below then go to the firmware update section and perform those steps to update the firmware. I'll post the steps below for setting up the wireless security.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION FOR THE CTR350
Setting WiFi Security on your CradlePoint Router​

WiFi security is highly recommended by CradlePoint.

WiFi Security is separate from the

User Login Page. ​

Setting “WiFi Security” on your router prevents users from connecting their

computers to your router unless they have your wireless security password.

Follow The Steps Below To Set The WiFi Security:
1) Access your router administration page by opening your browser and typing

2) Click on the ​

BASIC tab, click WIZARD, click NEXT.

3) You will see a summary of the upcoming Wizard Steps, click ​

NEXT.

4) Enter your default Administrative password. This password is the ​

last six digits of

the MAC address ​

found on the label on the bottom of the router. Also select your

TIME ZONE, click ​

NEXT.

5) Select your ​

CONNECTION TYPE (USB Modem or Ethernet), click NEXT.

6) Configure security by selecting either ​

ENABLE ADVANCED SECURITY CONFIGURATION

REQUIRE USER LOG-IN.

7) When you select ​

ENABLE ADVANCED SECURITY CONFIGURATION, you can rename

your wireless network and select your security mode: ​

GOOD for WEP, BETTER for WPA

BEST or WPA2. (Make sure your PC or other devices support the mode you choose.)

Enter a personalized ​

SECURITY PASSWORD.

8) Only select ​

REQUIRE USER LOG-IN if you wish to force every user of the router to log-in

using the User Login Password ​

(Set in a separate location in the User Interface), click NEXT.

9) Record the setup information shown on the final summary page, then click ​

CONNECT.

This will save your new settings and reboot your router to operate based on your new
security information.​

You’ve now secured your CradlePoint router from unintended WiFi access.
