Solved Need help installing new graphics card driver

I tried downloading a new driver from there and it installed and then told me to restart. When I do I get a black screen after the Starting Windows screen and it never goes away. This is my problem; I can install it but for some reason after I do my computer freezes up. Any ideas why?

Can you boot in safe mode and check your temp? Also when you are in safe mode check and see if the nvidia driver did install or just downloaded.
Have you done anything with Windows or bios that you forgot to tell us?
Such as new programs, tuneup this and that programs.
What anti virus do you have, please list all.
Do you have restore points before all this started happening?

Hey I will check those when I boot in safe mode.
Also there have not been any recent windows updates. I did download RevoUninstaller before in an attempt to get rid of some unwanted programs but nothing to do with the graphics card or anything like that.
My AntiVirus is just Microsoft Security Essentials

The reason I'm asking so many questions is because 2 and 2 is not adding up to 4.

Tick on the exe and let it run. Stay with it and if asked follow the on screen instructions. Don't do anything else with the computer when it is installing. I'm hoping it will install. Then reboot in normal mode if you can. You never did give me a answer to (do you know what driver was installed before you started this project of yours. Also do you have any restore points?

I had Nvidia GeForce 310m. Is that just the card and not the driver? if so, not sure exactly what driver I had. I know I clicked on driver info when it was still in device manager and all it said was this device is not working properly.
As for restore points, unfortunately I have none set before I had this problem with the graphics card. It said there was a critical windows update yesterday though (of which I had no idea until now).
I will try to install the driver again now.

I FINALLY GOT THE NEW DRIVER INSTALLED!!! And now the graphics card shows up in device manager with no error messages. Not sure exactly what fixed it. But here is everything I did leading up to it:
- Completely uninstalled and deleted every component of Nvidia on my entire computer
- Ran Driver Sweeper and cleaned "Nvidia Display"
- Restarted computer
- Downloaded newest driver for my specific computer off of the Asus website (unfortunately they dont have the Nvidia version of the driver listed. Just their own version number. But it ended up being Nvidia Version 257.41 though)
- Restarted computer again
- Everything is installed and works perfectly!

Thank you to all who helped me try to figure out what was wrong!

Very good job. Now just write down the driver and put it is a safe place. Once again it shows that the newest drivers are not always the correct ones. Now to help with your original post of lagging games. Their isn't much you can do with the computer you have but take a read through here. Some of the things might be of interest to you.
