Guys... I am in serious trouble and need help urgently !!

I had recently brought the Seagate Backup Plus 1TB portable hard drive.
It has a freeware called Seagate Dashboard inside it.

So , I was trying that out and moved [CUT and no copy] all my data from my laptop into the HDD and I don't know how but I locked my HDD using BITLOCKER unknowingly. I have not set any password for it and tried using the recovery key to unlock it but its useless. I checked the identification key and tried various methods to unlock it but its of no use. It says that the key is incorrect and not acceptable. I think the encryption was not done properly.

I have moved all my important data from my laptop in the HDD as I have brought a new PC. There are many important files and data in it . I will be in an extremely serious trouble if my HDD does not get unlocked OR if any of my data gets deleted.

Please help me guys... I need to fix this urgently !!!

Hello Excavior, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if the tutorial below may be able to help unlock the drive. It does require that you have the correct BitLocker recovery key or password though.

Hope this may help, :)
Shawn

Sorry.. but the drive is still locked. I tried both the methods but still no progress.
You can check my results on the links below --->

Are you copying and pasting the recovery key, or typing it out?

You might try the opposite to see if it may just be a glitch using the other way.

If it still fails to unlock, then you might see if you may be able to use the method below to unlock and copy it to another drive to recover the data.

I tried copying as well as typing but it failed every time.
I have not yet tried the above method by the fear of losing my data. As per the link , it says you must have another drive of an equal or more than the total size of my HDD . But the problem is that my laptop has only 500GB internal space and my locked external HDD has 1TB [only 931 can be used] although the data stored inside it is just around 250GB and not full. So should I try the method above or no ? Please check the link below.

In that case, no. Whatever drive you used to copy to would also be formatted in the process. The drive being copied to does indeed need to be the same size or larger than the locked BitLocker drive.

Was this the original PC that the external HDD was encrypted with BitLocker on?

Everything was done on my laptop. Actually I had brought the HDD just because 500GB was less for me and that had made the computer a bit slower than before.

The data stored in the HDD is around 250-260GB only. So should I try emptying my E drive which has the capacity of 300GB and then try it out ? Or I will need something with minimum 931 GB ?

It would need to be something at least the same size or larger than the full capacity of the drive. :(
