I have a Home network that was configured as follows:

Computers:
XP-Pro PC - connected via USB to a - Shared Photo Printer
Mac Leopard - connected via USB to a -Shared All-in-One Printer
XP-Pro Laptop

I also have an ethernet networked Laser Printer and an ethernet networked NAS.

With this setup I could print on all three printers from all three computers. I stored all documents, photos, music, etc on the NAS and it could be accessed very quickly from all three computers.

I replaced the XP-Pro PC with a new Win 7 PC. Now I cannot see the Shared All-in-One that is connected to the Mac via USB. I cannot get into the Mac from the Win 7 machine without an ID and Password which I never set and do not have. I can still print on the Mac-attached printer and get into the Mac from the XP-Pro laptop.

Can anyone help me to be able to access the Mac and to use the Mac-attached shared printer from the Win 7 machine?

Hi EdS,

I'm curious; but does basic file sharing from the win7 box to the mac work (if you are using this)?

Also on the Mac check 'sharing' in 'system preferences' and make sure you have printer sharing ticked.

I have a gut feeling that the Mac is not going to like IPv6, I know I had a problem setting up sharing from my win7box to my mac. I'll check it over and let you know what I find.

Ah.. I found the problem that I had, see if it helps you too.

It wasn't IPv6, it was Minimum session security for NTLM SSP. Here is another post about it for Vista (I did exaclty the same thing for Win7 but I can't find the link) with props to dnegrich for the following work. Windows 7 and Mac OS X Sharing

The below is directly from dnegrich's post, not my work.
Windows 7 will not work with Mac OS X Windows file sharing support by default. If you attempt to access a folder shared from Mac OS X, Vista will display a logon error repeatedly.
The problem is that Vista, by default, will only use NTLMv2 for authentication, which is not supported by Mac OS X's Windows Sharing service.
The other problem is the Minimum Session Security for NTVLM SSP based Clients.
To get around this:
1. In Vista, open the Control Panel
2. Switch to "Classic" view
3. Double-click Administration Tools
4. Double-click Local Security Policy
5. Or Secpol.msc
6. Expand "Local Policies" and select "Security Options"
7. Alternate : Type secpol.msc to get editor up then
8. Locate "Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication Level" in the list and double-click it.
9. Change the setting from "Send NTMLv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session if negotiated"
10. Network Security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP Based (including secure RPC) Clients
11. Change the setting from "require 128 bit" to unchecked (No Minimum)
12. Click OK

the real difference between vista and windows 7 procedure is 10 and 11

Can anyone help me to be able to access the Mac and to use the Mac-attached shared printer from the Win 7 machine?

My Username in my Mac is Mike and the Mac's fixed IP address in my network is 192.168.3.22

When prompted for a Username & Password to access it from my Vista PC and the first time from Windows 7 (which seems to have remembered the login), I have to enter:

Username: 192.168.3.22\Mike

Password: {my Mac's password}

My XP PC has never required this form of login to access the Mac.

Thank you. I can now see and use the Mac-attached printer.

This did not fix the file sharing issues.

Before I get ahead myself.
1. Your print sharing is now working right?
2. Your file sharing won't work and you don't know the password on the Mac?

If I understand correctly, it's strange that the print sharing works and the file sharing doesn't. Perhaps they are different levels of security.

I guess your Mac is not asking for a password when you boot it up. If the password is already blank then set one up in System preferences/accounts (you can still make it boot up without asking you for the password).

You could also try a blank password. As mgmcc said above, the correct format is:
username
ipaddress\user name e.g. 192.168.1.5\EdS
or
mac computer name\user name e.g. MacLeopard\Eds
Password
(leave blank)

Other than that, follow the steps that I posted earlier to ensue that the correct security protocols for file sharing (that win 7 expects) are installed. Windows 7 and Mac OS X Sharing. If the link is all gibberish to you, please let me know and I'll elaborate with screen prints.

That is correct. When you enable an account for sharing on the Mac, it will ask for that account's password.
The worst that can happen if somebody accesses your printer is that they print suspicious files.

Which is really a lot of fun. One time I wardriving through the neighbourhood and every unsecure network that had Bonjour set up that I came across ended up printing something across the lines of "Your network has been compromised. all ur base belongs to me." :D

Fixed - Both Printing and file sharing now works

Thank to all for the advise. I have finally gotten both the printing on a MAC-attached printer and the MAC file sharing working.

Bonjour cured the printer sharing issue immediately. I finally got the file sharing working after I completely reset all of the MAC file sharing settings - not sure what was wrong but it all works now.:D

Can now print to MP500 connected to Imac

I just bought a laptop with Windows 7 and installed Bonjour to print to our Canon MP500 that is connected to an Imac via USB. Had no problem with XP. To finally print, I opened the printer properties of the printer I created in Bonjour. Click on the Advanced Tab and then I changed the driver to Generic. I then selected new driver and chose Generic and MS Publisher Color printer and then hit Windows Update. It gave me a list of manufactors and I selected Generic and 35PPM PCL. It worked. After many hours and 3 extra printers in my devices I now can print. Any idea how to get rid of the extra Bonjour printers? I read that Windows 7 doesn't allow you delete printers with the @ sign in the name. Any work around this?

Hi Patg,

Welcome to the forum.

Have you already gone into secpol.msc and enabled "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session if negotiated" (per the first page)? and if so, can you browse to the MAC from the Win7 box?

If not, please run through my checklist on the first page http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/47191-need-help-using-mac-shared-printer-w7-pc.html.

If you have, then please install the correct printer drivers from the Cannon website. Sometimes windows update does not host the latest drivers from here -> Cannon Drivers

If you experience any error messages during the process, please let me know what they are and I'll attempt to help.

I also need to let you know that in 12 hours time I'm on a plane for the next day from Singapore to New York, so I can't reply tomorrow but I will reply when I get to to NYC.... that's of course if my plane is not cancelled like the other one million + people :P

Using the current print driver is woring fine. I found another post to get rid of the extra printers. I opened notepad and then the print box. I selected the extra Bonjour printers I installed, right clicked and deleted. Worked great. have a great trip
