Apparently my idea won't work....damn.....I have a ASrock DDR2 and 3 mobo and I thought that was slick....oh well thanks for shattering that idea ! lol

Well Steve I reckon one could always try banging it in with a hammer. Seems to me someone around here is not satisfied with anything very much and should get on and do it.

Well, I think eventually, things will change. But, right now I don't see it being any better than DDR3. I'm sure that will change in time. Last I read, DDR4 will come out with 2133MT/s transfer rate, or the equivalent to DDR3-2133 ram. Only with 1.0-1.2V Vs. DDR3-2133 at 1.65V. So, it seems that it will be lower voltage (which most of us care little about) but the same or lower speeds. I'm running DDR3-2400 ram right now. The early specs on it was a maximum transfer rate of 3200 MT/s, but you can buy DDR3 with the same transfer rate.

It seems it was a revolutionary concept when created in 2005. DDR2 was the dominant ram at the time and DDR3 was just out/just coming out. But, since the conception of DDR4, DDR3 has come out with higher and higher speeds. With what little I understand about ram and DDR4, I fail to see the advantage. But, I'm sure there is much I don't understand about it.

Besides, most of this technology is and has to be led by Intel. They have to make a CPU to accommodate it. I have read where they say they have no intention of doing that at this time.

Hum KB looking briefly at the info the Haswell is still 22nm and is only going to save on power usage as far as I can make out the desktop versions are not that much different in power usage compared to the Ivy's.
The only real advantage I can see is in laptops or those err "things"

Kelly, do you really think Haswell will make Ivy Bridge cheaper? Ivy Bridge seems to have done little to make Sandy Bridge cheaper. On Newegg right now a 2600K is $319 and a 3770K is $329.

It will make IB CPU's drop for the first month or so, just like SB. I saw SB CPU's drop up to $50 when IB came out. Good time to snatch up IB parts. Also, I do believe Haswell will be a tad faster clock-for-clock than previous generations. Not much, but some. I just don't think it will hurt to wait at least until review sites get their hands on Haswell chips to see how well they perform......either they will be more efficient and more powerful than IB or not. Getting more information never hurt.

Hum well I didn't see much change in those refs i sent but if the IB does drop them I might upgrade my i5 for an i7.
Plus I reckon it really does depend on what we are talking about in efficiency? power usage? core speeds? I/O transfer? or what? I any case you are going to have to match that with some fairly decent RAM? not to mention as Steve says the board.

I bet the TDP might drop a tad and maybe there will be another ~10% bump up in performance. Also, maybe Intel will go back to the process they used on Sandy Bridge for the IHS. I think they saw the method they used on the Ivy Bridge CPU's might have been a mistake. All of this is speculation of course, but with AMD not making Intel step up their game, they can refine and refine and make a little progress here and there and still be ahead of the game. Plus, Haswell on-chip graphics are suppose to be MUCH better than the HD4000 graphics. If I were building a computer, or was thinking about it soon, I would definitely wait and either go with the new platform, or get IB chips when they go on sale.

Nah I am staying with Ivy she is quick enough and well the graphics I prefer a small not terribly expensive card to be honest (and it gives me an excuse to get inside the machine and play LOL!!)

I mean how fast and efficient do we really need to go?? Plus we could go on about this till the cows come home. It's interesting from a technology point of view but heck what I use my machines for I just don't see the point unless I was a besotted gamer of course
Besides you can probably spend more money and effort on stuff that can be recouped from using it.

Mind you can't wait for those cheaper chips

The only thing that AMD has better is the on chip GPU and lower power (Laptop market). That's what Intel is going for. They apparently want AMD out of the business all together. That sounds like Intel to me. But, they have to give the desktop market something, so.... Haswell is supposed to be 15% more efficient than Ivy, just like Ivy was to Sandy. If you do the math, that is not insignificant. But the most interesting part, if true is that Intel has found problems with linking everything to the bus frequency of 100. So, they are separating it again. If they separate the BUS from the Uncore, that will make overclocking a new game entirely. If they do that, it will put overclocking back to the old way, and a lot of us back in school. personally, I hope that's true. And, I can't give a link because I don't recall where I read it ut I found it on a couple of different sites. It was one night when I was bored and just looking around to see what I could find. I looked on a video about the new chip... He said its mostly for laptops and it less power consumpning. I dont care about the power consumtion. Its my parents who pay for the power ...
Otherwise. The performance is really good from the i5 3570K so why whait...and ddr4.. Nah. Thinking of using 2133mhz ddr3 and i think it will last long when it comes to new ddr4 comparison. Ddr4 will probably be like ddr3. "Slow" speeds in the beginning and when the new version is comming we push the speed up crazy. Like 2400mhz...
