I am currently trying to update an aunts old computer from XP to Win 7. The mobo as stated in the title is an ep-8krai pro. Problem I am having is I can't get windows to install. I can get to the point where the Windows Installation Dvd is trying to "expand" the files but at the same point 65% I keep getting this error message:

"Windows cannot install the required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error Code: 0X80070570"

So far I have tried mulitple burns of my downloaded install dvd at varios burns that include 3x, 4x, 8x. I have tried mulitple HDDs with both IDE and Sata drives. Everytime I get to the same point at 65% expanded and up pops that damned message.

I don't know what I am doing wrong. Is this mobo compatible with Win 7. Do I need to change the bios settings and if so what do I change.

Any help that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.

Check your PC with the Upgrade Advisor:

Download details: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

Thanks I actually forgot about this. Will try it when I get back from work today.

Might want to test the memory using something like memtest (ISO version),

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

seems most here had the same error,

http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/5318-win7-install-error-0x80070570-2.html

and it was due to bad ram.

After googling around I found this out to. I tried reinstalling Windows XP Home back on it and the install was flawless.

If the ram has something wrong with it wouldn't it affect the XP install in the same way it has done with the Win 7 install?

That said I have a new stick of memory it transit to me as I type this. It was meant to bring the system up to 2gb total but it now looks like it may be a replacement for the stick that was in the system.

Ok I have now used both Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and memtest86. The only hardware problem the Upgrade Advisor alerted me to was that the video card needed to be upgraded.

As for Memtest86...it made a complete pass and reported no errors so it looks as if the stick of memory is good.

Tried the other Dimm slot to see if that would work and still got the same results with that error.

Anyone more ideas out there as to what could be wrong here.

Windows 7 is not happy with AGP Video cards.
Try a PCI card.

I see that the ep-8krai is a Via KT600 board, with AGP graphics. (Vintage 2004.)

According to Via, the chipset drivers are included with Windows 7. They don't make anything available for separate download.

Perhaps you could try installing Win7 from a USB flash drive:

Use a USB Key to Install Windows 7

That eliminates concerns about burning the DVD. The installation also runs considerably faster than from a DVD, so even if it doesn't work, you'll waste less time.

By searching the site I have also now tried these fixes that I have found here. None of them worked.

1) Resetting the CMOS
2) Removing everything but the hard drive and video card (I need the card as I only have a dvi cable to work with).
3) Installing getting the error and then reinstalling without rebooting.

The video card is currently a PCI .

Created one last night before I went to bed and will be trying it out later tonight after work. I also purchased a subscription to BiosAgentPlus.com and put out a request for the last version of the bios that was put out for this board.

Edit: Just got an email from BiosAgentPlus.com representative stating that the Bios was the most current for this board.

Hope you can get a refund from that site. For starters Epox has been out of business for close to 4 years and their sites are all gone, so at best that bios site might have the last update that Epox put out for it. Also sorry to say but the $40 you paid for the subscription is about what the computer itself is worth.

Considering the age of the motherboard and no doubt the rest of the components, as nice as the idea is to update it to Windows 7 this is one of those where you would be better off putting XP back on it.

I agree but she wants Win 7 so the hunt for the fix goes on.

Hello GhosRaider,

I maybe late providing you this information. Nonetheless, I was successful loading and still running Win 7 Pro on my EP-8KRAI Pro.
What you need to be mindful is the video card. That is what my experience has taught me with Win 7 Pro installs.

If the video card is not 256 MB you may encounter issues loading Win 7. Actually the hardware advisor recommended the card be that large I did and have not looked back.

My memory is a pair of Corsair 2 GB Value Select but I initially loaded the OS using Corsair 1GB XMS kit.

Yes my card is AGP 8X EVGA 5600 256MB.

The Mobo can be over-clocked so I will be trying that next using another AMD Athlon XP in case I burn it.

Yes I do have my user manual, my EP-8KRAI Pro's manual is revision 1.0.

If you still need the any information let me know so I do my best to help you.

Also, Win 7 Pro loaded must of the drivers of this Mobo, with the exception of the sound driver which is found on the Mobo's CD.

The system is running faster now than Win XP. I built it for my Mother. I will be over-clocking hopping it works as she want her system to run as fast as my AMD 3200.
