hello to all,
my computer specs:
dell inspiron 3647
intel core i-5-4460s cpu @ 2.90GHz
8.00 GB installed memory
64Bit OS

I am writing today to ask for help in finding out why my data's being used up so quickly. i live way out in the country where satellite internet (hughes net)is my only option if i want speeds faster than dial-up. that means i also have data caps. some days i have no problems and some days my daily allowance can be used up in 20 min. I'm not a gamer and i don't do a lot of YouTube other than a movie trailer under 2 min long and. ive looked around on the internet for a fix, i found one in which it said that system updates are being downloaded in the background and to stop it i should stop the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service or BITS" service. i did that and it seemed to work for a day or two but the data loss continued even when this service was stopped and disabled.
i would appreciate any help you guys can offer and thanks in advance for it.

happy holidays to everyone

Could be due to a number of issues.

First, read all of this loooong thread: http://www.sevenforums.com/news/371537-how-remove-get-windows-10-app-your-pc.html

Next, be sure to turn OFF all Windows automatic updates - you need to manually makes checks once or twice a month then decide what to install.

Many applications check in (call home) every time you start them - turn off their update checks in the program's preferences. You could also install a firewall such as ZoneAlarm which makes it easy to deny individual programs or services access to the Internet.

Find, load and run the little program called Autoruns to see what loads and runs. Turn OFF those you don't need to have running unless you start it up on command.

Check your Windows Task Scheduler and changes entries as appropriate.

Regards,
GEWB

I have a 5 GB cap on a Verizon Cell modem and do not view any videos of any kind. One of the biggest data consumers I have seen is Facebook. My wife has an account and she can use 50 to 75 MB in about an hour sometimes more.
