Good Morning, I have a HP business Latitude E6410 laptop with win 7 Pro. I am trying to update my antivirus ( yearly renewal) and it is asking for a password. I do not have a password set up so not sure what to do. I also cannot uninstall the program to start From scratch since it also asks for a password that does not exist.

NOTE- I DID HAVE A PASSWORD SAVED, BUT WINDOWS DID NOT RECOGNIZE IT SO I REMOVED THE PASSWORD PROTECTION AND STILL IT ASKS FOR A PASSWORD TO MODIFY/REMOVE/UNINSTALL.

NOTE- THE PASSWORD, WHEN IT WAS IN EFFECT, WOULD ALLOW ACCESS WHEN FIRST STARTING THE LAPTOP, BUT WILL NOT WORK WHEN ASKED FOR ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD. i THOUGHT THEY WERE THE SAME.

Is it asking for windows password or anti virus as a lot of antivirus require a password so hackers cant remove it

I contacted the mfr, checkpoint and they said a software specific password was somehow enabled, so i went into safe mode and was able to remove the program. I will now try a clean install of the new version of the AV.

Morning all,

The instructions from the software vendor were quite complicated and I was unable to follow the instructions, so on a whim I went into safe mode and presto! I was able to uninstall the program and install the latest version. However during this process the laptop has died. Will not start. The Microsoft utility program said it cannot repair and would need professional help (reinstall windows I think), and it was acting buggy, floating pointer, keys not working.

It was a used business 2010 model that was refurbished and purchased in 2017 and was 8 yrs old. I think in computer land this would be considered quite old. It was only used for vacations and the such. It worked great and was only about $285 delivered and performed excellent for what it was. So I bought another one, this one with Win 10 Pro. I guess consider this thread closed. Gonna have to join the Win 10 forum now!:D

Thanks for the help!
