Hello
I hope this is correct place for this posting, as its during install.

I have win7 64, and I was using IE9 with zero problems.
I had to re-install(fresh install) win7 64bit and now IE9 is no longer available!
I go to this page for IE9 and microsoft says we recommend IE11 , the recommended and Improved(Improved?).
Download Internet Explorer 9 from Official Microsoft Download Center

I select IE9 and clik next and the next page has-
1)Windows IE9 for IT pros & developers--Win Vista 64 bit & windows server 2008 64bit edition
and
2)Windows IE9 for IT pros & developers--Windows Vista & windows server 2008.

NONE are listed for Win7 64 bit of those two selections available.
I have tried installing both and get message this version not compatible with win7.
Please , Please help me find download/install link to IE9 for Win7 64 bit.

I installed IE11 and it is terrible! I have lockups while on yahoo, basically all sites.
I have to restart after lockups to get back on (internet)yahoo ,or I cant even get yahoo to display if I dont.
If I clik IE after lockup, I get message in address window "waiting for yahoo" , but have to restart, sometimes with hard restart power down.
I know how to do fresh install of win7 64bit and have had ZERO internet problems with IE9 in the past.
Odd that IE9 is available for Vista but not Win7 64.
Please help

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
You must uninstall ie11 and Hide it,
Then after the ie10 and ie9 update will appear in windows updates after manually rechecking for updates,
You do also need to change your windows update setting to check for updates but let me choose when to download and install them,

If you choose to Uninstall ie9-10-11 see this,

Hello ThrashZone & thank you for your response.

I don't know how to "hide " IE11, I do want to avoid it though.

I already deleted partitions & did another fresh install and stopped short of installing IE11.
Are you saying to install IE11 on this fresh install then uninstall it?
Then when I go to this ink in my original post it will have IE10 & 9 for win7 to choose from?
Download Internet Explorer 9 from Official Microsoft Download Center

I wish this could be simpler as it was Oct/14 when IE9 win7 was on Micro for download.
Sorry that I am confused on some things you said to do.
thanks again!

Hi,
No if you see the ie11 update on the list of updates Right click it and click on Hide,
Then recheck for updates manually and other versions of ie will be listed,
There's no need to go anywhere to download the other versions Microsoft will bring them to you once ie11 is selected to Hide,
The prior link should of showed that on another update but it works the same for all windows updates,
Cheers.

Hello ThrashZone,
Thank you for being patient with me.

Where & when during fresh install will I see IE11 update on a list to be able to rt clik it & hide it?
If I recall when I first go to yahoo (open IE) after fresh install , it says"welcome to IE8..next or ask me later etc.
Are you saying at that time I can go to ctrl panel and hide IE11?

Do I have to install it IE11 before I can hide it?
Where do I check for updates manually? In ctrl panel/win updates?

I will be so happy when I sort this out.

I appreciate all you have done thus far!

After you uninstall IE11..........

Once again, IE11 will appear in windows update, right click on and choose hide update.

You can get to windows update by clicking the start orb then all programs.

But yes, on a fresh install IE11 will be 1 of the 180 updates. Uncheck and hide it.

IE9 or 10 may pop up on the update list, but I would not install 9 or 10.

I kept 8 for a long time before I switched to 11.

IE sucks anyway, just use Chrome ;)

Yep AddRam is correct,
You don't have to worry about it during the updates download process you can easily uninstall ie11 later
There are a boat load of updates and fewer errors occur if you uninstall ie11 later,
Cheers.

On the top left of the screen will show check for updates and Change settings.

I was at work when I first saw this. Couldn't reply until I got home.
On my hard-drive, I have copies of both msIE 9 32-bit and 64-bit. Will that be of any help?

The copies are unneeded Microsoft still delivers these versions via the update system,
The only catch is the upgraded version Have to be Hidden
Then they will be offered as usual,
But If you ever want to go to say 10 or 11 in the future you must Unhide the hidden updates first
It's all explained in the prior tutorials that have been posted ;)

Hello all
First I would like to thank everyone for the help, I am so grateful!

I never installed IE11.

If what I write will help someone else(newbie to IE tasks) as much as I was helped, then great!
Here is the step by step I took(with help from you all)-

1) Before opening IE8 go to control panel administrative tools/services/ select windows update, right clik/select properties/at Startup type , drop down choose- manual/apply /ok.

2) Control panel/windows update/change settings/Important updates drop down choose"check for updates but let me choose weather to download and install them"/ok.

3) Open IE"welcome to IE8 , next or ask later"/next/"turn on suggested sites"/no/next/
select"show me"/next/"compatibility"/no/finish. "Your browser has been updated"/close window/check"always close all tabs"/restart.
* I did run into a problem but worked it out as IE9 didnt appear at first.

4) Control panel/windows update/"176 important updates are available , 6 optional important updates are available"/clik on 176/uncheck IE11 for windows 7 for x64 based systems 91.2MB(ms.net framework 452 is already unchecked). Right clik IE11 that I unchecked/left clik "hide" /ok/Now it has 177 and 6 optional avail./Clik "check for updates" ,top left/"checking... , 177 & 6 important , 175 important selected 690MB"/clik 177.

5) Look for IE10 for windows 7 x64 based systems/uncheck it/right clik on it/lt clik hide/ok/
Now "176 & 6 important available , 174 important selected"/clik "check for updates"/"checking... ,
"176 & 6 important avail , 174 selected"/clik "176"/ IE9 NOT THERE/close/"checking..."/IE9 still not there/Close update window/re enter control panel/win update/clik"check for updates"/checking.../clik "176 important"/IE9 is now there/uncheck all 170+ but leave IE9 for windows 7 x64 based systems checked/"total selected 1 important update"/ok/
"1 important update selected 36.7MB"/clik install updates button , "downloading & installing..task bar bubble "downloading..." @ update window"installing.. , installing update 1 of 1 , win IE9 for win7 x64" , The updates were successfully installed"/
"Restart now to finish install , succeeded : 1 update"/clik restart now button/

6) At desktop open IE/"setup IE9" window appears/Use recommened security & compatibility settings or dont use recommended settings are choices/select "dont use"/ok/"Meet internet explorer" widow/close/restart/

7) Re -visit ctrl panel/Admin tools/services/windows update, right clik, select properties/select "disable"/apply/ok/ ** Even though I earlier selected "manual" in #1 above before opening IE8 first time, it was now on " automatic delayed start", that is why i re-visited and selected again./restart/

8) Open IE/clik tools upper right/clik about IE/Window pops up/
Windows IE9 version: 9.0.8112.16421
Update versions: 9.0.34(KB3008923)

I hope all this didnt confuse anyone, I took notes as I did this:)
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH ONCE AGAIN!

Hi,
On a clean install I doubt it's deadly I've done it recently on 2 machines switching both to ssd's,
Usually if issues appear on a older install or factory install it's because of a preinstalled or not quite uninstalled third party security suites...,
Common ones like Mcafee or Norton for the most part are very difficult to get rid of even if installed later replacing the other,
Cheers and your very welcome :)

Hi ThrashZone,

I did try IE11 on clean install , installed same method as I formerly installed IE9, going to Micro download IE page.
The lockups (in my first post), & when I close webpage, IE11 just sat there for a second , then closes , or locks up.
With IE9 no lockups , no errors , and when I close a webpage..BAM! , it closes.
I might be the only one that has these issues with IE11 , not sure.

Would it be safer to install IE11 from control panel/win updates to IE11 or is it exactly same as going to link in my first post?
I must need to disable or change something on IE11 to make it work as well as IE9 does for me.
Wish I knew what that tweak could be.

Take care

Usually it's flash player that's the issue
Try to disable it in manage add-ons or another BHO add-on causing the crash,
I would first use windows update for all versions your on 9 now so the next would be to go to 10 and test neither of these versions have flash player unless you install it,
11 I always thought it was built in but others say no ?

It's been a while since I've used 11 myself in win-7 it's too buggy
10 should be tested though it is way better imho
Cheers.

Hello ThrashZone

If I visited a site that required Flash , then with Flash Object disabled , some sites gave message that I need it installed to view correctly . I also disabled Adobe link helper in add ons , & left Flash running , still lockups using IE11. I did disable these when I had IE11 installed.

All accelerators disabled too ie: bing etc when I had IE11.

I will use win update in control panel if I do fresh install in future or want to try IE10 and hide 9 , now per your advice.

* With IE11, I went to adobe and it gave an "install now" Flash 16, it didnt say if, or what version was already installed on IE11 at that time.

Next fresh install win7, I will try IE10 , I repect your opinion and advice.
Thank you again for your help ThrashZone!

Reinstalling IE9

Being the tech geek in my family, I've done this serveral times. I've gone the routes listed here & did successfully find a file download I saved to reinstall IE9. However, I discovered the simplest path is:
Control Panel, Programs, Programs & Features then click on View installed updates. Find the Windows Internet Explorer 11 (or 10) update. Click on it, then select Uninstall. Restart and Windows 7 will revert back to IE 8. Go through Windows Update process, only installing updates for the version of IE currently loaded before installing the next version.

Watch out for the KB's that are pushing Windows 10 or known to cause problems on W7 64 bit OS.
KB2952664
KB3013531
KB3045645
KB3068708
KB3075249
KB3075851
KB3080149
The above is a partial list, but these are the key. Check View installed updates to be sure they are not there. By scrolling the list, I found KB2952664 was installed even though the search box didn't find it. After uninstalling these. Run Windows Update & Hide them by right clicking on each one & selecting Hide. Some of these will reappear in future Updates even though they're hidden. MS is getting sneaky.:(
