Solved Need LAN driver after upgrade

Hi everybody,

Im new to Windows (Mac Guy) and am having problems locating a driver for my onboard LAN.
After upgrading from XP to 7, my AcerPower APS 260 no longer connects to the internet, saying
there is no device driver installed...so I went to Acer's site and of course they only have LAN drivers for XP.
I spent a couple hours searching for Widows 7 drivers but didnt find anything except this site...hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction?

Hello and again welcome dandu mate much as the link says in Maxies link and seeing the machine is fairly old I doubt whether it is up to running that well in 7 and just as an observation you have very little RAM for the Ultimate 7 even running the 32bit version.

Did you still try the XP driver to see if it might work??

If still a problem, list any Problem devices

• Make sure devices are connected and powered on
• Click the Start Orb, type msinfo32 in the search box. Hit Enter
• Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
• Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
• If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
• On the other hand, if no devices are listed, tell me so

Right, that computer won't perform well with only 768MB RAM. However, it probably has 1GB physical RAM on the motherboard and that is the minimum requirement for Windows 7 and later. The reason for it showing only 768MB is that part of the physical RAM is set aside by the BIOS for the onboard/built-in video/graphics adapter. 1GB = 1024MB so usually having 768MB available means the video is getting the remaining 256MB.

Just be sure it has Win7 32-bit drivers, usually come on a CD.

Note: the 64-bit versions of Windows have a requirement of 2GB RAM.

Yep that is what I was thinking and I couldn't find any links for that machine apart from adding from companies selling RAM. So I think Berton has made a very valid observation re the inbuilt RAM but without seeing the specs we shall never know, and because I suppose because it is an old machine.

Thanks alot for the info you guys...DIMM 1 has 512 MB and DIMM 2 has 256 MB. I really can't afford to buy 2 1 gig DIMMS to max it out... Should I just go back to XP? Microsoft no longer supporting that OS has me wary. Are XP compatible antivirus apps still being updated? This is a whole new (and scary) world I'm just now getting into lol

Hmm sorry about the RAM mate I suppose in either situations you need security and I think Microsoft having it's millions from XP leaving those folks high and dry is to me a tad unethical.
If you go back to XP then just load it with a good real time AV and a few on call scanners.
