Hey there guys, I need some help regarding a hard drive, if you can help, I'd really appreciate it.

The laptop in mind is the HP
Pavilion dv4-1225dx. This laptop was originally windows vista by the factory, but my brother upgraded it to windows 7 home premium operating system.

The original hard drive lasted about 2 years (laptop wasn't used much since it was for travel purposes.) After 2 years of owning the laptop, it started giving him problems which forced my brother to replace the hard drive, so he got a replacement from HP for about $70. Since the hard drive was new, that is when he decided to purchase Windows 7. Fast forward to today, the symptoms that the laptop had in the past are back and this time this hard drive only lasted about 6 months. Slows, laptop can't remain on (shuts down out of the blue) It's to the point that we're not able to reinstall windows 7... Luckily he had important data backed up.

This is the part number of the hard drive that HP sent us:

480604-001

Laptop brand/model:
HP Pavilion dv4-1225dx

After a google search, this is what came up:
Hewlett-Packard (HP) 480604-001 - 250GB 5.4K RPM 2.5" SATA Hard Disk Drive (HDD)

I lost faith on that hard drive. I would like to know if you guys can recommend me one that is better then that hard drive. I've read that Western digital is good, but there is so many too choose from and then I don't understand the spec differences. Newegg.com - Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, and More! is the site i've been looking at. The laptop is usually plugged in (AC adapater) and is only used for general stuff, no gaming. Hope you guys can help me purchase the correct hard drive for this laptop. Thanks

I'm not surprised. This is how the big companies get more money out of their customers than what they paid originally for the laptop.

I recommend the 250 GB Scorpio Black. It is a 7200 RPM SATA II (SATA 3.0Gb/s) drive with 16 MB of cache and it's only $59.99 shipped:

Western Digital Scorpio Black WD2500BEKT 250GB 7200 RPM RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive - Newegg.com

The fact that it's a 7200 RPM drive will result in a snappier, faster end-user experience. It won't be a huge difference, but you'll notice it. Additionally, the Black drives are faster than the Blue ones, and you have a Blue one.

I second this. Great choice!
