Dear all,

I have a printer connected to my Win7 PC. setup the sharing of my printer done.

From another XP PC, I selected the shared printer, but it requires a username/password to connect.

Everything is fine if I define a password with my useraccount on the Win7 PC. But if I want to remove the password, my XP PC still requires one.

Is there a way to access share printers on useraccount without password?

Did you give permission for the other user to have access to the printer.

Go to devices and printer and establish the correct permission from there. Use the printer properties, not the last one on the context menu, but in about the middle. It is called printer properties.

If that doesnt work, and if you dont want to enable a passwod on your primary account, create a second account (even if you never use it) that has a password. ive done that and it works great.

that doesn't work, already tried this. So I setup a password on my account of my Win7 PC, but I hate it, always have to enter it when booting up (PC multiaccounts)

that's a possibility indeed, but after I always see this dummy account at booting right?. A way to hide it?

For that problem try the following procedure which should fix the password problem for you. It's a bit of a security risk but on a standard internal network it shouldn't be a problem. :)
Perform this task on the XP machine.

Goto... Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options

Scroll down to... Network Access: Sharing and security model for local accounts

Select... Guest only and not Classic.

TY chev65 for your suggestions.

I have now the problem that my XP PC still wnats to connect via my useraccount. I cannot change the user because the field is grey. How can I make this field selectable again?

Other question: will I need to activate my guest account on my win7 PC following your proposal? If yes, will I see this account when booting?

Cheers

You need to perform the task in the last post on the XP machine only. That should take care of the password problem. Also make sure under the advanced sharing window on the Win 7 machine that you have turned off password protected sharing.
