Need PC Building Help

I'm not going to do anything as intense as video rendering, so I shall stick with the current chosen processor. My friend had advised me to get the Samsung 840 PRO SSD, but I doubt i'll need the higher Read/Write speeds so I was going to settle with the Samsung 840 EVO. My friend had also advised for me to stay away from Seagate and Hitachi hard drives, particularly the Blue Series (WD), but he never explained as to why. I have revised/modified my partlist a bit since I started the thread so here is the updated partlist.

Processor: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core ($199.99)
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme 81.3 CFM Liquid ($134.99)
Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 ($137.99)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 ($93.98)
HDD(s): Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" SSD for OS ($77.99)
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM for misc. ($84.99)
GPU: (Q4 2014) GeForce GTX 870 ($???.??)
Case: Phanteks PH-ES614PC_BK ATX Full Tower ($89.99) << a.k.a. deciphered as Phanteks Enthoo Pro Full Tower Non-Window version
PSU: Corsair 650W ATX12V / EPS12V ($99.99)

I have 30 TB of Seagate hard drives at my house right now(2TB, 4TB, and 5TB) and all work perfectly. None were DOA, and all of them passed my rigorous validation testing before being put into service. You get bad drives from every manufacturer, it happens, but in the last 10 years, I've only had one drive fail......it was not a Seagate.

That build looks good, money being put to good use. I would step up to the 2TB HDD because you can find them on sale for about $20 more than the 1TB drive and having owned 2 I can tell you they are fast, reliable and let's face it, twice the storage for a few more dollars.

I'm trusting you with this one kbrady1979. I don't think the build would look this great if it weren't for all of you giving me suggestions and advise. I'm going to be so happy to see this computer built and replacing my ultimate e-mail machine :D

The PSU is definitely something I would consider for a monster build, which will definitely be a future project. I think the build should have about ~600W max output (granted the video card that becomes available outputs @ ~350W).

Oh yeah, here are a couple of fully modular power supplies that actually come with high quality cabling.

SeaSonic X650 Gold

SeaSonic X750 Gold

I have the X750 Gold in my rig and I couldn't ask for a better PSU......I just wish they'd came with the good cabling when I bought mine!

Corsair has a few models damn near identical to the ones I linked to above, the AX series. I'd look and see which one you can find on sale. Probably not a nickels worth of difference between them.

I found the Corsair AX 760W for $119.99 on Newegg (with $20 rebate), but then again the prices may reduce. I have one final question, but I think some answers might be biased. Should I stick with Windows 7 or go for Windows 8.1? I use them both regularly and I've had almost no issues with either of the OS'. Should I also invest in a CD drive? I will post pictures and record myself building this setup once I've gathered all my parts (which should be Q1 2015).

Where are you getting the 2.0 Extreme from ?

The 2.0 Extreme has a driver issue and you will battle with it, Gary could never get it right and sold his where I eventually figured it out with a little help from Thermaltake and some experimentation.

You could consider getting the 3.0, it`s cheaper, but check the size for fit.

Don`t forget to order some grease.

I'm getting the cooler from mWave for $134.99.
On Newegg, it tops at $180.00 or so. The radiator should fit on the case; the top (where I wish to install it) has support for a radiator of up to 3x 120mm fans. Since they're from the same series, they should have similar performance correct? I almost forgot about the thermal compound! Thanks AddRAM.

Ya, that`s why I asked, Newegg has it way overpriced, I only paid $89 for mine but that was a year ago.

Yeah, I'm using PCPartPicker to try and find amongst the lowest priced parts I can find from mainstream sites online. Some of my shopping will have to be done (physically?) @ Micro Center.

Interesting enough the upcoming GTX series is going to be 900 instead of 800.

I just read an article on the recent change, they're coming out in September?! I guess I won't have to wait SOOO long for the build to start.
