Id recommend Intel or Crucial.

SSDs are a standard 2.5" form factor. They do not come in various sizes, other than capacity.

I had the a similar question, and what I did was go to the HardOCP website.

They regularly do testing and comparisons of hardware, including SSDs.

When you go to their site, click on the "SSD" link in the page header and you will see a list of SSD reviews. In the reviews, not only will you see how well a particular SSD model performs, you will also see comparisons of similar models from other manufacturers.

I went there today looking for info on 240-256G SSDs and ended up choosing the Kingston HyperX -- for various reasons.

Some notebooks will accept an SSD that is 9.5mm thick, and some, such as Ultrabooks and whatnot, need a thinner 7mm SSD. Some SSD's have a notebook kit and a regular kit. The Samsung SSD's are 7mm thick. The OCZ Vertex 4 is 9.3mm thick. The Plextor M5 Pro is 7mm thick, as is the Corsair Neutron GTX.

As mentioned, the thickness is all that really matters for dimensions. If you are shopping in the U.S., check out Newegg, as they will clearly show the thickness in the details. I didn't know about that until I tried putting a Crucial M4 drive in my HP ultrabook. That went back in my tower and I ended up with new SSD that was 7mm thick for the ultrabook.
