Hello 7 Forums

I need some kind of tool (probably CD/USB) able to format my disk. This is because when i try starting windows (in any mode), i get a very shot-lived blue screen. Also, when i try recovery dvd's, including the original win 7 installation dvd, i get a black screen with just a cursor, and i cannot shift + F10 or anything. it hangs for literally 10's of hours with no progress.

Thank you all in advance

-Tegewaldt

PS: I am NOT able to get ANY information out of the PC, so i cant give you e.g. a crash dump or anything else.

Burning it now.

Booting from it will then allow me to format the drive? or just re-partition it?

And thank you so much for your quick responses GokAy!

Sure, it is a very good partition manager we use frequently. You already backed up your files or have no need for backing up, right? :)

Given that it is a freshly installed win 7 - i need no files ;)

The program launched fine, but what does "rebuild MBR" do? (might solve my problem of the pc not starting)
And else, do i just right click the drive and press format, and then that's it?

Sure, you are free to try "rebuild MBR" since you are ready to format anyway :)

If not, delete all partitions and create new one/s as you wish.

Curioius as i may be, i figured i'd run a surface test just to check the integrity of the HDD (since i wasn't able to in windows)

... And after just 1.05% it's found 5 errors in the blocks :I

Not an expert on this myself sorry, how bad would you recon this is? Are bad sectors etc. repairable? Do they "go away" when formatting?

Remember this from my earlier post?
Check the HDD health with its manufacturer's tools.

Surface check is similar, bad sectors early on may be causing your issues indeed. To be honest, once bad sectors start to happen, many of us over here stop trusting that HDD and replace it as soon as possible.

Having said that I found a 3rd party app Dmitriy Primochenko Online - Repartition Bad Drive. But you need to run it from an already installed OS.

Hmmm

But installing windows ON the "bad sectors" would work? especially after running the program you just listed?

No, bad sectors shouldn't be used at all for anything. You should reconsider using that HDD for anything important including your OS. IS your 2nd HDD available? Are your data files on that one?

Sorry, but the PC listed in my specs is not the one im working on now. Instead, it is my gf's which broke down right before some rather important papers need to be sent in. It has just 1 HDD, and countless issues have arised while trying to install / reinstall win 7 on it.
