Solved Need to add ".doc" extension

The second half of her last post clears that up...

Do not choose Windows Media Player, Choose OpenOffice Writer.
Windows Media Player is for Music and Video files.

Finally! I was at last given an actual drop-down menu in the associate file with program page, and there was Open Writer. I chose it, and now I have opened the two files. So sorry I was able to open them now. Twenty-five pages!
