Need to go back to a previous image/clone in Acronis

Win7 problems. I was going to go back to a clone I made of my operating system months ago using Acronis. I actually made one with Macrium and EaseTo Backup.

How does it work with the window updates. Will I have hours of updating these?

Any other things to watch out for generally speaking.

Restoring the computer from an image will restore it to the exact state it was in at the time the image was made. Any Windows updates that occurred since that time will take place again.

Considering the number of updates that could take some time. I guess there is no way around that.

Before you set back to a far away image, make sure you save all your files. You can do that by making a new image now. I would use Macrium because the Macrium image is easy to mount - just double click on the image file.

A windows image can be mounted in Disk Management via the Action button > Attach VHD. Then you have to drill down 4 levels into the Windows image file to find the VHD.

But if you don't want to be that fancy, you can also just copy/paste your files to another drive/partition.

A fun way to make an image is with Command Prompt. The command is:

WBADMIN START BACKUP -backupTarget:f: -include:e:

Where 'f:' is the disk/partition where you want to store the image and 'e:' is the partition you want to image. This image VHD mounts like a Windows image.

By the by, how often do you make an image/clone. The one I last did was March 15 of this year.

I do an image backup weekly, or after a newly installed program.

I run the verify process and then delete the previous one.

By waiting 3 months between backups, if you have to restore, you will also have to do all updates since your backup.

I use Acronis Trueimage , but Easeus also works well.

I also do my backups to TWO separate hdds, just in case of a failure on one of the hdds.

I use free Macrium and make images about once per week. I used to make a daily image but then I thought that was an overkill. For possible problems between images I try to use the restore points (which are not always reliable).
