Have you looked in your Recycle Bin? Good chance they are in there.

Not sure what you mean when you say you haven't got the install disc for Windows 7 at the moment. Is it lost? If so you will have problems if you wish to re-install at any time! Did your PC come with Win 7 pre-installed or did you upgrade?

It wouldn't work for anyone to send you the files. DLLs and other files required by the program have to be registered with the system. In fact, I doubt your story entirely as the files under c:\program files\internet explorer are considered system files. I tested this on my own machine just now and was fully prevented from deleting those files, even with administrator permissions.

I'm afraid you're on your own with this one. You need recovery media for your computer to proceed, and you can get it from the manufacturer for a nominal fee.

So it was an accident, but you had to circumvent multiple layers of permissions to do it? Hmm...interesting :)

Just FYI....that is a VERY bad idea. You should never modify permissions on system files...on ANY files for that matter. It's a very quick way to a non-functioning system, and it is completely unnecessary.

Try Shadow Explorer which allows you to restore individual files/folders. Here is a tutorial I once made on Shadow Explorer. But it is pretty simple to operate.

I recommend Recuva instead: Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

It's from the creators of CCleaner. It has worked great for me when I accidently have deleted files.
Recuva is only useful if you have no appropriate shadows. But in general, there is a much smaller chance to recover data with Recuva - especially if there was a lot of activity on the disk.

Recuva is only good for getting things back if you know the name or are trying to get back all your files etc. For this, IE deleting files, not knowing the names of each or the extensions would be hard. also placing back into the IE folder and hoping they are all good.

Edit: I highly recommend Recuva, but I don't think its best in this instance

The shadowexplorer thing? is that part of system restore files? if so - he turned that off.

Edit: I checked this out. Is this setup automatically in win7? I have to find out more ... thanks WHS
