Neither Media Player nor Media Center Will Play DVD

Hello all. I can't get eithe WMP or MC to play a DVD. I've set the region code. WMP acts like it will play, but then just goes blank, and MC says it cannot play the DVD. These are original discs, not burned copies. I have a custom built system, with 2 graphics cards (GTX 260 and a GT 220) 6 GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Seven forums.

For starters, if you haven't updated your graphics drivers from the manufacturer's website, please do so... Although this seems like a codec issue. Are you using any codec packs? If yes, which one? Also, it could help us knowing which renderer you use for video playback.

Sorry for the late reply, work has been a nightmare. My graphics drivers are up to date. As far as the codec, I don't know. This is W7 right out of the box, so I haven't changed any settings with the exception of the region code.

Why did you have to set the Region?

The original message was, this is a paraphrase, that the disc was region one and the player was set to region one; please check your settings. So when I went into the properties, there was not region set and I set it to region one.

This was the first time you had played a disc using this drive?

Yes it was the first time, I also tried several other DVDs. I have used the drive for installtion discs and everything was fine.

Try running SFC /scannow

Maybe the codecs are corrupt, it's worth a shot.
