I tired like a dozen DVDs in Windows Media Player, they all do the same thing, only the previews will play, all other titles and chapters are grayed out and I cannot click on them! I have watched the same preview for the same movie 8 times now and there is no way to get to the actual movie in Windows Media player! I Googled the problem but nothing came up! How do I get past this road block?

WMP is junk! Sorry.. I never have and never will use it. My suggestion? Dump WMP and use VLC It's easy to use and it's FREE. You will not regret it..

I was looking at your specs, try disabling avg. Do this before inserting the dvd disk.

I have done a clean install of Windows 7 using Dell re-installation disk (Dell sent me one). I also use Free Macrium reflect backup and restore.

The specs need to be updated anyway because I got a new computer. AVG is still installed though. How would AVG prevent a DVD from playing to begin with? It's not an application and WMP is a Windows Component.

I do have Media Player Classic bundled with Klite Codec Pack which is set to handle all media files, Can it play DVD's as well?

Not sure, I think I know what going on. When you insert a dvd, it opens in windows media classic player instead of windows media player. I am not totally sure but I don't think windows media classic player can play encrypted dvds. I don't think the movie previews are encrypted.

Here is how to use windows media player for dvds.
Open Control Panel
Select Programs
Under Default Programs select Change default media for Media or Devices
Open the dropdown next to DVD Movie and select Play DVD using Windows Media Player

I'd recomment, more or less, what "Lance1" said: try one of the following players (they are more light on system resources, allow more parameters to set, if you want to, and offer more functionality) :
1. KMPlayer,
2. VLC Player,
3. Media Player Classic (yes u can play DVD, but with the rest players, when you come to get used to them, you'll have more usefull options),
4. GOM Player.
Personally, I've got 1. 3. 4., all three of them (i use mostly KMP for video and MPClassic & Winamp Pro 5 for audio).

- Pick one and get used to its offered capabilities; you won't regret it.

"Windows Media Player" is dead and buried in my memory... ;) :D ;)
