Hi,

I got a Samsung N310 Netbook (NCIX.com - Buy Samsung N310L Atom N270 1Gb 250GB 10.1IN WSVGA Webcam 3G Hpsa Windows 7 Starter Netbook Blue - NP-N310-HAB1CA In Canada.) a couple of months ago.

With the exception of one instance, all BSODs have occurred while watching a flash video. It would happen sometimes within minutes of playing a video, and other times, it would happen after 30 minutes or an an hour or so.

The RAM's fine. Ran Memtest through full one pass. All drivers are up to date. It doesn't happen when watching other videos ie. Veetle.com, DiVX, offline videos etc

When watching flash videos, CPU usage shoots all the way up, while Veetle and other videos don't use that much CPU. I have feeling it's not related to flash per say, but rather related to instability while high-resource tasking.

BSOD message is this:

*** Harware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error
*** The system has halted ***

Windows doesn't restart on its own after BSOD, and doesn't leave a memory dump.

I think maybe just upgrading to 2GB of RAM will fix the problem, but lack of RAM shouldn't produce a BSOD, right?

Thank you for your help.

EDIT: sorry, forgot to add the report zip file. Added.

Welcome to SF, prot287.

First please do this...

HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS

In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.

Second, your system report notes excessive paging. Available memory on the system is low. You may want to upgrade your memory or lower your system requirements.

Also, did not see any dmp files in your upload.

No DMP file included in upload. please try this method.

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Start your own thread in the appropriate section of the forum and attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

Also ram is one of the biggest causes. How long did you run memtest for? did you run it one stick at a time? Did you test the mobo slots with known good ram?

Thanks. Updated my system info.

However, there is no minidump folder. Like I mentioned, Windows is not creating a dump file after BSOD, and doesn't restart automatically, although it is set to do so in the startup and recovery settings. It never had any other kind of BSODs.

OH, also, ran the memtest for one pass. It's a netbook and it only has one slot.
AND, no optical drive.

Yup, I know. Nothing much I can do about that. I got rid of a few junks that came with the netbook pre-installed. I keep my computers clean with only necessary programs, but Windows 7 running on 1GB has its limits, I think. I am thinking of upgrading to 2GB (that's the max my netbook can handle). But I want to make sure these crashes aren't related to some other driver issues etc first.

By all mean, please upgrade to 2GB. Also, do the memory test for 7 passes. It takes time (do it overnight), but the error seems to point to this.

I'll do that tonight.
I don't know if it's just a coincidence right now, but I'm connected via ethernet instead of wireless. And, it hasn't crashed yet while watching flash video for nearly an hour.
I have a crazy guess here, but is it possible that wireless driver is the cause of the problem but Windows can't leave a memory dump because there is too little RAM?

Anyways, I'll run memtest over night and if there's no error, I'll look into the wireless driver.
