network 2?

i just started using windows 7 a few days ago and my internet explorer hasnt been working. when i go on it it says cant display webpage but the connecton is perfectly fine. also the very, very few times the internet has worked. it always says "network 2" in the thing instead of 'network' how do access network 2?? how can i fix my internet?

I didn't think you could do an upgrade from XP to Windows 7.

Anyway can you give us more details about your setup please, what type of computer do you have, desktop or laptop, and how do you connect to the Internet when it works, do you have a router or modem ?

Can you also tell us where you got your copy of Windows 7 and what version it is ?

The experts can't see your machine so need as many details as possible so they can help you.

alright well its a desktop, i plug a ethernet cord into my computer (its called mini itx) im not sure what it is i think its a router.? i dont know my brother does all the work. i have no idea what version it is but im convinced its home premium?

when it works it says 'network 2' and thats every time it works. whaen it doesnt work it says 'network' why is that?

you need to disable the network and keep network 2 i think at a guess

well. my computer restarted itself three days ago and ive never been able to get to network 2 again. ive tried troubleshooting it but there is nothing wrong. but something is wrong. ive disabled it and enabled it but it still wont work.

Upgrade installs can be problematic but are usually fixable. Try running this batch file which will reset winsock, reset the TCP/IP stack and renew and refresh your IP. First save to your desktop then run the file.

Download Renew IP + Reset Winsock Batch File

After that reboot the machine. If you are still having problems please post a screen shot of your ipconfig/ all , typed into your command prompt then hit enter and save the screen shot and post it here if you please. ​

ok, but how can i do it on mini because the internet isnt working. im on my old computer can i transfer it to mini? my network works.

Oh ok well if you can't move the file it's just as easy to type the commands, sorry bout that.

You can use the command prompt on the problem machine instead. Just start by opening the command prompt and type

netsh winsock reset catalog and then hit enter you should get a prompt to reboot. This one command has fixed this upgrade problem before so it's worth a try.

After reboot run this command to reset the TCP/IP stack.
netsh int ip reset reset.log

Also, can you post a screen shot of your ipconfig /all after doing that?

Oh ok, I just assume sometimes sorry.

Just go to start orb lower left and type cmd at the search window then right click the little icon that appears and choose "run as admin" then type the commands from my previous post one at a time then hit enter, rebooting after the first one and the second one.

To see your IP address and other important network settings you need to type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes into your command prompt and hit enter.

After that use the snipping tool to save a screen shot of the read out and post it here if you can. It will look something like the picture below.
