A printer connected to W7 cannot be seen from XP nor Vista. File sharing is working. File and Printer Sharing is turned on. The context menue displayed when printer icon is clicked on, does not include "Sharing" option. How can I set sharing of a specific printer?

Do you have "File and Printer Sharing" turned on in your Network and Sharing Center? All computers?

As stated in my original post, it is turned on. It appears that the specific printer I want to share needs be set for sharing, but I could not figure out how to. I attempted to do so a la for XP or Vista but I did not see "Sharing" option.

Edit: I found how to do it. It appears that MS made setting for printer sharing much more complex and cumbersome.

LOL, don't they always? We asked for more security, and they gave it to us.

Anyone tell me what happened between the beta & RC because I could access the printer while I was using the beta but not now with the RC?

Thanks did that, well I suppose I did  because it is working, but the other way round, Installed the printer to my wifes laptop, the most commonly turned on computer in the house (running XP SP3) and from my laptop (Win7) it installed ok, but my d/t (Win7) & my sons d/t (XP SP3) I had to muck around to install using : \\Server\Printer Name

So Thanks WYSIWYG, but I would like to sort it back the original way Win7 as the server

Confirm

I can confirm, that using a printer on a network share (a Brother HL 2030 on a Win2k SP 4 machine in my case) isn't longer possible with RC1. It was with Beta. The W7 machine does see the printer; an attempt to install the drivers ends up in "Error 0x000000d". Very interesting :)

OS
Windows 7 RC1
Win 7 keeps dropping printer.

I have re-networked my Epson RX680 that is attached to my XP machine, in win7 four times now (That makes 5 times in all.). It works for an unspecified time then disappears for no reason. Win7 will not "See" the printer anymore. I have to start from scratch, and reinstall the drivers every time. I should be able to install a printer without resorting to '\\computername\printername'. My other XP machine networked to the printer, works fine, and has not dropped the printer.

The printer on the XP machine has been shared, and works fine in Win7 every time I reinstall it. Is there a problem with Win7, or am I doing something wrong. I've networked a great many printers, and never had a problem.

Add info: The XP machine with the printer installed, IS sometimes shut down with the Win7 machine still running. this would cause the printer to vanish off the Network, but in my opinion that should not matter. When I go to re install the printer, it is always clearly visable on the network when I click Add Printer. I am asked to re instatall the drivers every time I add the printer back. I lack the technical knowledge to check and see if the drivers are still installed, and the OS cannot find them. I should be able to run the networked printer without drivers on the Win7 machine, but perhaps this OS is different and needs them.(?)

This is extremly frustrating. Can someone help?
